Amazon Fire TV - Streaming made easier
Here on the page you will find our selection of Amazon Fire TV.
If you are considering buying a new streaming device to make your television a bit smarter, you may have heard about Fire TV, Amazon's new streaming device.
This streaming device allows you to easily stream your favorite TV shows, movies, music, games, and sports from apps such as Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, and Netflix.
It connects directly to one of HDMI ports on your TV, connects to the internet, and has a much more intuitive interface than you are probably used to.
Think of Amazon Fire TV as a portable smart TV, minus the screen.
It is a small, portable device that looks like a larger USB stick, which plugs into your TV's HDMI port and connects to your Wi-Fi network to make streaming easy.
Fire TV tends to update more often than smart TVs and gives you a larger catalog of services and apps to choose from.
Currently, there are several thousand, although you rarely need so many; you also get access to Alexa skills and some apps from Amazon's app store, such as games.
As new platforms/services are released, you can find them on Fire TV immediately, or it may take months.
When they are installed on your TV, the desired apps are downloaded, and you can access them in the same way as TV channels.
To better accommodate individual needs, there are four main models of Amazon Fire TV available at different price levels and with different features.
5 things you should consider when looking at Amazon Fire TV
Each model of the Amazon Fire TV device comes with a remote control, and most models have the same 8 GB of internal storage space for installing Amazon Fire channels or apps from Amazon's app store such as Hulu, Netflix, and other streaming services.
The exception to this is the Amazon Fire TV Cube, which doubles that capacity to 16 GB.
Each model has additional features added as you move up the product line with things like improved resolution, support for multiple audio and video formats, and extra features in the remote control.
Amazon Fire TVs ease of use and cost advantages make them ideal additions to your entertainment center, television, and alike, but also perfect gifts for those you care about.
Especially ideal for those who enjoy binge-watching episodes of their favorite shows or renting movies from their home theater.
#1 - Which Amazon Fire TV device is best for your needs?
Each of the devices in the Amazon Fire TV series offers different strengths and weaknesses.
Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite is an affordable option for upgrading an old TV, while Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K offers excellent high-definition and HDR viewing for newer televisions that do not already have a smart TV built-in.
Amazon Fire TV 4K Max is a good choice for those interested in game streaming from Amazon's Luna service, while Amazon Fire TV Cube is an enticing tool for power users wanting Alexa integrated throughout the house.
One of the biggest differences between Amazon Fire TVs various devices is how they look, especially between the remote controls and the cube.
Amazon Fire TVs remotes are typically a small black rectangle that usually measures about 8 - 10 cm in length.
As the name suggests, Amazon Fire TVs cubes have a completely different appearance: a 8.5 cm square box.
Some require a constant connection to a power outlet, while others can be powered through one of your TV's USB ports.
If you want a remote control, you often have to pay extra for it; the standard Amazon Fire TV comes with a voice remote, but that's about the most innovative feature.
Otherwise, it only has the standard array of d-pad, confirm, play/pause, rewind, fast-forward, home, back, and options.
Many of the Amazon Fire TV devices, however, have an extra button on their remote: Live TV.
This button jumps you straight to the part of Fire TV OS that integrates with Sling TV and other services.
There is also a new way to more easily customize the live TV screen, thanks to the newly announced "Add channels" button.
Which device is best for you depends on your needs and how you plan to use the device.
#2 - Is there a monthly fee for Amazon Fire TV?
Amazon Fire TV itself does not come with any form of recurring fees.
However, there is a good chance that to get the most out of the device, you will likely end up considering some monthly streaming services, if you aren't already subscribed to some.
Fire TV can stream from practically any service you can think of, including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and hundreds of other options for streaming services.
#3 - The size of Amazon Fire TV
When you buy an Amazon Fire TV, the first thing to consider is where you plan to use it.
Some Amazon Fire TVs are about the size of a pack of gum, making it easy to take them to hotels or vacation rentals.
While larger options, like the Amazon Fire TV Cube, are about the size of a small clock and would be better suited on top of your entertainment stand.
Besides size in a physical sense, you also need to determine how much storage space you need for your Amazon Fire TV.
Most Amazon Fire TVs come with 8 GB of storage, but the Fire TV Cube is equipped with two 16 GB, giving you the freedom to download more apps and games.
#4 - Full High Definition (HD) versus Ultra High Definition (4K Ultra HD)
Another important thing to consider is your TV's resolution.
Most new TVs support 4K resolution and video playback with high dynamic range, and while these specifications may seem a bit complicated, they are merely indicators for providing better overall picture quality.
Not all Amazon Fire TVs support 4K playback, however.
If you own a 1080p television, there is no reason to spend extra money on a 4K-supported Amazon Fire TV.
#5 - Audio + video formats
If you are an audiophile (also known as fans of high-fidelity sound reproduction), you will want to ensure that your Amazon Fire TV supports Dolby Atmos sound; a feature that adds overhead sound effects to create a more immersive listening experience.
As for those primarily concerned about the best video quality, make sure to check that your Amazon Fire TV supports 4K UHD, HDR, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.
