What is an ash vacuum cleaner
An ash vacuum cleaner is used exclusively to suction ash from either a wood stove, pellet stove, or fireplace.
It is an essential piece of equipment for you if you have one of the three mentioned, as it makes it significantly easier for you to dispose of the ash.
We also have a wide range of other smart devices for your home, such as coffee machines, milk frothers, cordless vacuum cleaners, or baking machines
Regular vacuum cleaner vs Ash vacuum cleaner
The biggest difference between a regular vacuum cleaner and an ash vacuum cleaner is the material they are made of.
A regular vacuum cleaner is more used for everyday tasks, whereas an ash vacuum cleaner is used as described earlier, exclusively for wood stoves, pellet stoves, and fireplaces.
The ash vacuum cleaner must be able to withstand the somewhat high temperatures of the ash, whereas the regular vacuum cleaner does not have the same endurance.
5 things you should know before buying an ash vacuum cleaner
Before you purchase an ash vacuum cleaner, there are several things you should consider.
This ensures that you choose the right ash vacuum cleaner for your needs.
#1 The Price
There are many different ash vacuum cleaners at various prices. It is therefore important to align with yourself on how much money you are willing to spend on it.
What features are you willing to pay for, and is it worth paying for? How large should the container be?
If you are just looking for an ash vacuum cleaner that does the job, namely vacuuming the ash, then you shouldn't spend much more than 350 DKK on it.
#2 HEPA Filter
HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Absorbing and is often seen in air-purifying devices, such as air purifiers and vacuum cleaners.
If you are allergic or generally sensitive to dust, then an ash vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter is truly something that can enhance your quality of life.
The HEPA filter is capable of capturing even the smallest dust particles, so you don't end up inhaling the tiny particles that the ash leaves behind.
To keep the HEPA filter as clean as possible, it is important to clean it regularly. Many ash vacuum cleaners also come with a replaceable HEPA filter, making it possible to swap the old one for a completely new one.
#3 Watt Consumption
Ash vacuum cleaners generally use more watts than regular vacuum cleaners. A regular vacuum cleaner uses a maximum of 900W, whereas an ash vacuum cleaner uses about 1,200W.
It is actually a European legal requirement that regular vacuum cleaners may not exceed 900W; anything above that is more energy-consuming than necessary.
Ash vacuum cleaners are more powerful than regular vacuum cleaners and therefore use more electricity. A typical ash vacuum cleaner is somewhere between 800W - 1,200W.
#4 Container Capacity
The larger the capacity of the container, the more ash it can hold. This means that if you have a container of 18 liters, you also won't have to empty it as often.
However, it is a good idea to empty it as often as possible, so the ash vacuum cleaner can perform at its best and there is also a lower chance of the tiny dust particles escaping.
The most common capacities are 10 L, 18 L, and 25 L. The price can of course vary depending on the capacity of your ash vacuum cleaner.
#5 The Length of the Hose
A long hose is not only more practical but can also be better for your health. With a long hose, you avoid coming too close to the fireplace since you can easily vacuum the ash from a distance.
It's more practical for you, so you don't have to lean down so much or over the fireplace to do the job.
Moreover, it is better for your health as you increase the distance between you and the tiny dust particles from the ash, which can irritate you.
#6 Cleaning
An ash vacuum cleaner is easy to clean, as most are cylindrical with a lid on top. You open the ash vacuum cleaner by opening the locks and removing the lid.
Then you have free access to its container, where the ash is stored. It can thus be emptied by disposing of the ash in the trash can or a plastic bag.
Once the ash is emptied, you can extend the cleaning process by taking a cloth and wiping down the container to get rid of any remaining dust, or you can also rinse the container with a hose.
