4 candyfloss features and specifications you should know about
If you are looking to buy a candyfloss machine, there are some features and specifications that you should know about and look for before choosing your candyfloss machine.
#1 Indicator light
The indicator light lets you know if the machine is on or off, and in some cases, if it has warmed up sufficiently.
It needs to warm up a bit to melt the sugar and thus spin the thin candyfloss threads.
So it's handy that you can see from the indicator light that the machine has warmed up to the right temperature, so you know when you can add the sugar.
#2 Non-slip feet
Most candyfloss machines are equipped with non-slip feet underneath, so the machine won't slide around on the table while you make candyfloss.
Some candyfloss machines even have suction cups as non-slip feet, allowing you to almost secure the machine firmly on the table while still being able to easily remove it again.
#3 Candyfloss machine accessories
Some machines come with a measuring spoon so you can easily measure how much sugar you need for a portion of candyfloss.
Some machines also come with a couple of sticks so you can get started making your first candyfloss.
There are also measuring spoons that are made with a long handle, allowing you to use it as a stick to make your candyfloss with.
They are also made from materials that you can wash, so you have reusable candyfloss sticks.
If measuring spoon and sticks are not included, you can easily purchase them separately as accessories, just like you can with ingredients such as sugar and color for making candyfloss.
#4 Power source
The candyfloss machine must be plugged into a power outlet to turn on, so you need to be aware of this if you want to use it outdoors.
In such cases, you will need access to an outdoor power outlet or an extension cord.
However, do not use it outside in the rain, as the motor and power outlet should not come into contact with water.
Easy cleaning of the candyfloss machine
For easy cleaning, you can check if the parts are dishwasher safe, which most parts typically are, except for the motor part, of course.
If the parts are not dishwasher safe, they can often be easily cleaned with a damp cloth and then wiped dry.
Let the machine cool down before you start cleaning, but don't let it cool down for too long, as especially colors can leave stains in the candyfloss machine.
Candyfloss machine for children's birthday
If you are hosting a children's birthday and want to impress the kids a little by giving them a small carnival experience at home, you can easily get a candyfloss machine.
You don't need to go out and rent a machine, as you can actually buy them at very reasonable prices, and you can use the candyfloss machine time and time again.
The kids can even participate and get to shape their own candyfloss or choose colors and flavors themselves.
How to make candyfloss
It is actually easy to make candyfloss and only requires one or a few ingredients, as you can see below:
- Sugar
- (Color)
- (Flavor)
Color and flavor are not necessary, but they make the whole process a bit more fun and allow you to make more personalized candyfloss.
As sugar, you can choose to use regular sugar, special candyfloss sugar, or even powdered sugar or candies.
If you want color in your candyfloss, then powder colors are better than liquid food coloring, as the liquid color can easily create clumps in the sugar mixture, making it impossible to spin thin candyfloss threads.
If you also want candyfloss with flavor, the easiest way to achieve flavor is to mix the sugar with crushed candies or simply use crushed candies.
Then you can use any kind of candy that you like and give your candyfloss your favorite flavor.
You can also use flavoring in drop form, but be careful not to use too much, so the sugar doesn't clump too easily.
Typically, you need 1-2 tablespoons of sugar for one candyfloss, but you will mostly be able to see on the machine how much you need to use.
You can see the actual process of making the candyfloss in the section below.
How a candyfloss machine works
Fortunately, making candyfloss is super easy, so most people can easily make the sweet sugar clouds.
First, the machine is heated and then sugar is poured into a small hole in the center of the candyfloss machine, where the machine heats the sugar until it melts.
The melted sugar is used by the machine to create thin sugar threads, which are spun around inside the candyfloss machine.
The small threads are collected by gently placing a stick against them, causing the threads to stick to the stick since they are so sticky due to being sugar.
You continue this until you have collected enough threads that your candyfloss has taken shape and now looks like a small cloud or big lump of cotton, and you now have your finished candyfloss.
