Disinfection for hands and surfaces

Here on the site you will find our complete range of disinfectants for both hands and surfaces, which can help reduce the spread of viruses and bacteria.

Disinfection is good for many things both at home and for personal care, it is often used to reduce the risk of spreading viruses and bacteria between people.

Especially hand disinfection has become particularly popular, and if you do not have easy access to water and soap, a good hand sanitizer can be particularly useful.

There are many forms of disinfection, and some are more suitable for certain things than others; you should always be aware that what you use on your hands or skin should of course be intended for this.

A disinfectant for surfaces, for example, is not necessarily suitable for hands, because it may contain chemicals that can cause allergies or damage to the skin.

Here on the site, you will find several types of disinfectants for both hands and surfaces, and they come in various forms such as sprays, wipes, and gels.

5 things to consider when looking for disinfection

If you are unsure about why you should disinfect, what to use, or how to disinfect, read on below, where we have gathered 5 things you should know about disinfection.

#1 - Why should you disinfect?

In ordinary Danish households, it is not necessarily needed to disinfect all the time, but if you have small children, pets, or are sick, disinfection of hands and surfaces can be beneficial.

For many years, schools have tried to teach children about proper handwashing and encouraged them to wash their hands often, but the truth is that many adults also do not think much about washing their hands unless they have been to the toilet or are about to prepare food.

This means that bacteria and viruses can easily spread from one place in the house to another, which can compromise hygiene and make other household members sick.

Of course, it is not the case that you should live in a completely sterile environment, as the immune system also benefits from being activated occasionally, but when the children come home sick, it can be good to maintain good hygiene to prevent your entire household from potentially falling ill.

So you should disinfect to reduce the spread of viruses and bacteria in the home.

#2 - When can you use disinfection?

You do not need to use disinfection all the time, and your skin doesn’t benefit much from it either, as many disinfectants also dry out the skin, but there are some situations where it can be a good idea to be a bit extra mindful of hygiene and bacteria, for example:

Vacation abroad

When you are on vacation abroad, you suddenly encounter many bacteria that you do not normally encounter at home in Denmark.

This can put the immune system to work, as it first needs to learn to combat these bacteria, which can make you sick.

Therefore, it can be a really good idea to disinfect your hands before eating or after you have been shopping and touched several objects or furniture.

When you are sick

When you are sick, have a cold, diarrhea, or vomit, you can spread bacteria around the house, even if you are mindful of washing your hands.

If you do not disinfect the toilet or door handle, the next person who visits the toilet might risk getting infected.

Therefore, it can be beneficial to wipe surfaces and handles with a disinfecting wipe while you disinfect your hands.

If you have eczema

If you have eczema on your hands, water and soap can irritate your hands in excess, and since many hand disinfectants contain glycerin, it may be more pleasant to use.

But it does not replace water and soap, so if you have dirty hands, you cannot avoid washing them first.

When you have had guests

When you have had guests for a party or gathering, many foreign bacteria come into your home, so it can be a good idea to disinfect surfaces like door handles when you are cleaning and tidying up the day after.

When there is illness in the kindergarten

When you know there is illness circulating in your child's kindergarten or school, it can be a good routine to get door handles and other surfaces disinfected regularly and to provide hand sanitizer.

This way, you can reduce the risk of everyone in the house getting infected and potentially being sick.

When there is no water and soap

If the family is on a camping trip, bike ride, or other places where there is not immediately access to water and soap, it can be a good idea to have hand disinfection with you in the bag.

It does not replace water and soap, but can reduce the risk of viruses and bacteria being transferred to you and your family.

#3 - How to use disinfection

When you need to use disinfectants, you should be mindful of what the particular product is intended for.

Surface disinfection can be carried out using products to mix in cleaning water or using disinfecting wipes.

Surfaces that can be beneficial to disinfect include:

  • Tables
  • Door handles
  • Light switches
  • Phones
  • Keyboards
  • Toilets
  • Taps

So generally, the surfaces that are frequently touched and therefore are potential sources of infection for viruses.

There are disinfectants for specific purposes, such as keyboards and screens, that often contain a lot of alcohol that evaporates quickly, so it does not harm electronics, and these products should not be used for anything else.

Hand disinfection does not work on dirt, so hand disinfection should be used after handwashing to achieve the best effect.

It can be beneficial and make it easier to remember to use disinfection if it is placed by the sink.

Remember that it is not particularly healthy to live in a sterile environment, and therefore disinfection should be used in moderation, especially products for the skin or hands.

#4 - Disinfection for many purposes

Disinfection helps to kill microorganisms that can sit on surfaces and skin, thereby reducing the risk of bacterial and viral infections.

Disinfection can among other things kill or neutralize cold and flu viruses, as well as many other viruses.

Although most people think of disinfection in connection with hands and surfaces, there are disinfectants in many other forms.

Disinfectants exist throughout the home, such as:

  • antibacterial clothing and sportswear
  • deodorants (antiperspirant)
  • soap
  • cosmetics
  • mattresses, comforters, and pillows
  • laundry detergent
  • hair products
  • and much more

So there are countless options for disinfecting both yourself and your surroundings.

#5 - What form of disinfection?

There are many methods for disinfection, and it is perhaps not always easy to know which method is best for your needs, so here you get an overview of the most commonly used methods.

Hand disinfection

For hand disinfection, either gel, wipes, alcohol, or spray is often used; the methods are roughly equally effective if used correctly.

It is mostly a question of what suits you best and what you prefer to use; some find gel sticky and wipes fantastic, while others feel the opposite.

Surface disinfection

For surface disinfection, there are also wipes, sprays, and cleaning agents to mix in water.

Here, wipes are suitable for smaller areas, and for electronics such as screens and keyboards, while the spray is effective for larger surfaces.

The cleaning agent is best suited when the entire house needs to be cleaned, so it can be beneficial to combine the cleaning agent with, for example, some wipes for small areas between cleaning days.
