Green screen - special effects for your image or video
Here on the page, you will find the complete range of Green screens, which can help you create special effects on your pictures and video.
You can find both packages with different Green screens and lights, single standing Green screen, Green screens with stands, and much more.
The selection of Green screens is large, and they come in many sizes and designs, as well as in foldable and self-standing varieties.
5 things you need to know about Green screen products
Green screens come in many varieties, and it can therefore be difficult to figure out what you need and how much, while the options for effects are countless. Therefore, here are some things you should know when you are looking for a Green screen.
#1 - Color variants for Green screen
A Green screen is also available as a blue screen, but the technique behind both is commonly referred to as Green screen.
In technical terms, the technique is called “Chroma key compositing” or simply “Chroma keying,” and it is a technique used to create special effects or combine multiple images based on color.
The reason that green or blue is often used is that these two colors differ more than other colors from human skin tones, but in principle, all colors can be used.
The purpose is simply to create a solid color background that is easy to replace with another.
The technique is widely used for special effects in films, video games, or in something as simple as the news and the weather on TV.
No matter which color you choose, you can, through post-processing of the image and video, insert something else in place of the respective color.
If you use a Green screen, it is therefore impractical to wear green clothing, as this will also be replaced by what you choose to overlay.
It is possible to get Green screens that are green on one side and blue on the other, so you can find both in one.
#2 - Foldable or roll-up Green screen
A Green screen functions as a background, and therefore often has a certain size. Therefore, it is worth considering whether you want a Green screen that can be folded and take up minimal space, or a screen that can be rolled up and takes up a bit more space.
The foldable Green screens often have some form of wire in the edge, which stiffens and expands the screen when it is to be used, and can be twisted around to fold it together.
These foldable units do not take up much space when they are folded together and are therefore easy to carry around, for example, if you use them with your mobile phone.
The screens that can be rolled are often available in a form of cassette, from which the screen is pulled up when it needs to be used and rolled back when you pack away.
But it can also simply be a rectangular piece of screen that you can roll up and take under your arm without a cassette.
If you need to use the screen in a studio or it needs to be displayed most of the time, a cassette can be an advantage, whereas a foldable one is practical to have on the go.
#3 - Stand or self-standing Green screen
Whether your Green screen should be hung on a stand or should be able to stand by itself depends on where you use it.
If you primarily use the screen in a studio, it can be nice for it to stand by itself, which is often possible for Green screens in cassettes. However, it is also possible to hang a Green screen from a ceiling mount if it needs to be used there permanently.
Ceiling mounts or wall installations are normal for large Green screens, which also cover either the floor and/or the ceiling.
If you often travel to locations and film videos or take pictures, it may be easier to have a stand for your Green screen. Here, a so-called tripod is often used since this stand is very flexible in that it can be adjusted to the height you want and can be packed down to take up very little space.
With a stand, you have the option to hang your Green screen on a bracket on the stand, giving you a stable and large background for your image or video.
#4 - Size of your new Green screen
Green screens come in countless sizes, from screens that can cover an entire room to some that only cover a portrait image.
So, what size you need depends on what you want to use the Green screen for and what you need to cover.
If your new Green screen is primarily to be used for online meetings, webcasting, or vlogging, where you sit still, you can settle for a Green screen that is not much larger than the image on the camera.
On the other hand, if you need to use the Green screen when you are moving and need to show your entire body, you should consider a large Green screen.
As mentioned, screens come in many sizes, but the most commonly used are, for example:
- 150x100 cm
- 200x150 cm
- and a circular one of about 110x100 cm
Another way to determine the size of your Green screen, if you are a bit more technical and fact-driven, is to buy a Green screen that matches your camera’s field of view (“angle of view”).
Finding out the camera's field of view can be done either by looking in the camera's manual or simply by testing it by taking a picture from the same distance as you expect to have to your Green screen against a wall and then measuring the area based on the image.
#5 - Why is light important?
Light is very important when working with Green screens because it is the key to achieving really good results in post-processing.
Green screens are poor with respect to shadows, as shadows make it difficult to achieve a good result in image processing since the shadow suddenly has a darker green tone than the rest of the screen.
Therefore, it is important to ensure a lighting that not only illuminates your face but also illuminates the screen and is placed between you and the screen.
If you only need the upper part of your torso and head covered by the Green screen, you can advantageously use a ring light, but if you need to show the whole body and possibly movements, you need to consider your lighting setup.
Be aware that the best lighting setup may require you to purchase a larger Green screen because your distance to the screen needs to be larger to allow for space for light between you and the screen.
