Hot Water Dispenser - Save Energy and Time on Boiling Water
A hot water dispenser can provide hot water for your coffee, tea, hot chocolate or any other drinks and recipes that require warm water.
It's an electric device that needs a power socket to heat the water.
The hot water dispenser is typically more efficient for heating than a regular electric kettle or boiling water in a pot.
It usually takes under a minute and sometimes just a few seconds to get hot water from a dispenser, meaning you won't use much power to make something warm to drink.
13 Things You Should Know About Hot Water Dispensers
#1 Water Tank Capacity
If many people need to use the hot water dispenser or if you use it several times a day, it’s worth considering the capacity of the water tank.
Hot water dispensers come with large water tanks of several litres, which are great for offices and workplaces, as well as smaller tanks for home use.
#2 Limescale Filter
Some hot water dispensers are equipped with a filter to remove limescale, giving you cleaner water for your hot drinks.
Limescale can affect the taste of water, and thus the flavour of your coffee, tea or other drinks, and so the filter can help provide a better taste.
#3 Temperature
The temperature settings can vary between dispensers, but there are often several temperature options to choose from.
On some hot water dispensers, you can set the precise temperature you want, while others may offer a selection of different temperatures.
#4 Time
It doesn’t take long to get hot water from a hot water dispenser; in fact, it’s often only around 5 seconds before you have hot water in your cup.
However, the time it takes also depends on your chosen temperature, as it will take longer to heat water to 100 degrees than to 75 degrees.
No matter how hot you want the water, you generally only have to wait a few seconds before your hot water is ready, making it much quicker than boiling water in a pot or kettle.
Some dispensers can provide boiling water in as little as 3 seconds, with typical times up to around 45 seconds, again depending on how hot you want the water.
#5 Indicator Light
The indicator light is a simple little lamp that lights up when the dispenser is on and turns off when it’s off.
#6 Water Tank with Litres Marking
You will usually see that the water tanks on dispensers have a litres marking on the side of the tank.
This way, you can easily see how much water you’re filling in or how much you have left when the tank is in the dispenser.
#7 Programs
Some hot water dispensers have preset programs for heating water specifically for tea and coffee, making it easy to just select the right program for your drink.
In some models, you can also heat milk, where you may also find a specific program for warming milk.
#8 Child Safety Lock
Most hot water dispensers include some form of locking mechanism that acts as a child safety lock.
This means that if children accidentally turn on the hot water dispenser, they won’t get hot water poured on them, as the lock is engaged.
#9 Quantity
You can usually set the amount of water you need or simply press a button until you've poured enough hot water into your cup.
With the quantity setting, it's easy to get hot water for recipes, so you get the precise amount of water you need.
#10 Drip Tray
There’s generally always a drip tray on hot water dispensers to prevent spills and reduce cleanup.
The drip tray is located at the bottom of the hot water dispenser, right where you place your cup to catch any spills that might occur.
#11 Water Tank Indicator
Some hot water dispensers come with a water tank indicator that alerts you when the water tank is running low.
This light is often found on dispensers where the water tank is hidden, and you can't easily see when it’s empty.
#12 Design
As hot water dispensers are still not very common, there isn't much variation in their designs yet.
They are usually made of black, white, or grey plastic with metal components, or in stainless steel either shiny or brushed.
The water tank itself is typically always made of transparent plastic, so you can easily see the water level.
#13 Cleaning Indicator
With a cleaning indicator, you'll never be in doubt about when your hot water dispenser needs cleaning.
This is often a light or icon that lights up as a warning that you should descale your dispenser to keep it in top shape.
Cleaning Your Hot Water Dispenser
It’s important to remember to descale your hot water dispenser, as limescale buildup can occur inside the dispenser's system.
You can buy descaling solutions that are easy to run through the dispenser's system, and hot water dispensers usually come with instructions so you know how to do it.
It's really important to read the instructions that come with the dispenser as well as with the descaler, so you don't inadvertently do something that could damage the dispenser.
