LED Garden Lamp - outdoor lighting for the garden

If you would like beautiful and modern lighting for your terrace or garden, a set of LED garden lights may be just the thing for you.

With LED garden lights, you have the opportunity to get high-quality lighting that you can place in the garden or on the terrace, so you can better use the garden in the late evening hours.

Here you can find several different types of LED for the garden, so you can get one in just the model or shape you want.

With LED lighting you get much more efficient lighting than by using halogen or incandescent bulbs, as an LED bulb needs approximately one tenth of the energy to light with the same effect.

This means that your electricity consumption for garden lighting will decrease, and your bulbs will last much longer without needing to be replaced.

So if you would like good and efficient lighting around the garden or on the terrace, then some good LED garden lights may be suitable for your purposes.

9 Things to Consider When Buying LED Garden Lights

If you would like some good LED garden lights for your garden or terrace, it might be a good idea to do some research so that you are sure to get the right type of garden light.

Below we give you a few examples that you can use as inspiration so that you can better assess which type of garden lamp suits your needs.

#1 - LED Garden Light Location

When you are buying new garden lights, the first thing you should consider is where they will be placed, as this can affect what type of garden light you need.

For example, if you want your lamps to provide lighting for the driveway or patio, you may want to have them mounted on the wall.

Here you can find several types, such as those mounted on the wall so that they shine down on the area in question, or other light fixtures where they can be placed on the wall and shine out onto the area.

If you would rather have a lamp placed centrally on the terrace, you may need a tall LED garden lamp so that it can more easily provide good lighting over a larger area, without having to use many small lamps.

If you have many walkways or garden beds that you would like to have lighting on so you can enjoy the plants in the late evening hours, you may want to have some LED garden spotlights.

They can be placed in the ground with either skewers or screws, so that you can then have a small lamp that can illuminate your beautiful flowers and plants.

It is therefore important that you consider where you would like your LED garden lights to be placed or mounted, so that you get a better idea of what types of garden lights you should buy there.

#2 - Types of LED Garden Lights

There are a number of different LED garden lights, and it can therefore be important to be able to tell the difference between them so that you can better choose the right type that suits your garden.

LED garden spotlights can, for example, be really good at creating lighting that you can use to highlight certain plants or parts of the terrace, so that you use the lighting as part of the interior design and design of the garden.

It can help give you a better overview of the garden and enable you to better enjoy your plants and garden at all times of the day.

Examples of types of LED garden lights:

  • Garden spotlights
  • Wall-mounted garden lights
  • Garden Lights with Sensor
  • Freestanding garden lamps
  • Tall garden lights

If you would like lighting that illuminates a larger area in the garden or terrace, you may either need a series of freestanding garden lights or a tall garden light that can reach a larger area.

This allows you to illuminate a much larger area without having to use much extra power compared to if you used halogen or incandescent bulbs in the lamps.

#3 - LED Garden Lights with Sensor

You can also get LED garden lights with a built-in sensor, so you don't have to actively use the switch to turn the light on or off.

Then you don't have to think about turning the lights on or off when you want to quickly go for a walk in the garden in the evening, which can help give you more peace of mind.

In addition, garden lights that turn on via motion sensors can be a good anti-theft measure, as they also turn on if an unauthorized person moves onto the property.

It can potentially help you keep your home safer at night or if you are on vacation, as a well-lit area is one of the biggest deterrents for a potential burglar.

So whether it's for comfort or home safety, it might be a good idea to consider whether you would like LED garden lights with a built-in sensor, as it gives you some flexibility in how you can use your garden lights.

#4 - LED Garden Light Color Temperature

When buying LED lamps, it may be a good idea to consider what color the lamp should shine with, as this may have an impact on your experience of the lamp.

In this case, however, it is not colors, such as red or green, but different types of white light that a bulb normally emits.

It can make a big difference whether you use a warm white or a cool white, as it can influence how the light affects you.

Warm colors tend to make you relax more, and are therefore often used in the living room or places where you need to build up your daily energy again.

Neutral and cool colors, on the other hand, make you more alert and focused, allowing you to better focus on the tasks ahead of you, and they are therefore often used in businesses or schools.

The color temperature is measured in Kelvin, where below you can see where on the scale the different color temperatures lie to provide the light in question.

The light color

The color temperature

Warm Colors

2,700 - 3,300K

Neutral Colors

3,500 - 4,000K

Cool Colors

4,000 - 5,000K

It may therefore be potentially important for you to consider whether your LED garden lights should have a specific color temperature, so that you can get the lights that shine with the right light for you.

#5 - The brightness of your garden lamp

The brightness of lamps is measured in Lumen, also abbreviated as "lm".

The number of lumens can also change the appearance of the light itself, creating different types of moods depending on the number.

Here are examples of different numbers of lumens in lamps and the type of light they create:

Lumen quantity

Type of light

200-300

Soft white

300-500

Warm white

500-700

Cool white

700-1000

Daylight

1000+

Crisp white

The number of lumens is often very dependent on what you will be using the lamp for.

If it is a garden lamp that is to be used to create a cozy atmosphere, anything between 300-700 is often a good solution.

If you want strong lighting, for example to light up the garden with sensors for security purposes, a lamp with 1000 or more is a good solution, as it creates a strong light.

#6 - LED Garden Lights Energy Saving

By using LED garden lights, you also have the opportunity to reduce your power consumption for your lights in the garden.

It can be a potentially good investment especially if you have a large garden that needs many lamps, where regular incandescent bulbs would be a lot more expensive than an LED bulb.

An LED bulb generally has a lifespan of around 15,000 hours, whereas an incandescent bulb, in comparison, can only last for around 1,500 hours, so you get a tenfold increase in the bulb's lifespan just by switching from incandescent to LED.

In addition, the LED bulb also only uses one-tenth the power, since most of the energy that an incandescent bulb receives via electricity is converted into heat and not into light.

An LED is much more efficient, and therefore converts more or less all of the supplied power into light, without much waste heat remaining.

#7 - Durability and lifespan of your garden lights

The durability of your garden lights is incredibly important, as it is a unit that hangs outside most, or all, of the year.

In addition, it is important to look for devices with a high IP rating, as this covers its ability to withstand wind and weather, as well as high and low temperatures.

Even though all lamps on this page are designed to hang outside all year round, there are still some models that have a higher IP rating than others.

This is simply because they are typically of higher quality in terms of materials, and can therefore last a little better than cheap alternatives.

As a rule of thumb, an IP rating of IP65 is often very good, as this means that the lamp is not susceptible to dust, water, snow or anything else.

The material also has a lot to say about the durability of the lamp, and garden lamps are typically available in three different materials:

  • Aluminum
  • Stainless steel
  • Polycarbonate (hard plastic type)

All of these materials are very resistant to wind and weather, so the choice actually has more to do with what type of material you prefer, purely aesthetically.

#8 - Power consumption in LED garden lights

If you are concerned about the power consumption of garden lights, fortunately there is not much reason to be afraid in modern times.

Since more or less all modern garden lights are created with LED technology, they use much less power than the old halogen models.

You can always see the power consumption of our lamps by looking for the wattage, typically indicated by a number and a “W” sign.

Next, you can quickly calculate how much power a given garden lamp uses, here is an example:

  • You have a garden lamp that uses 30W and is on for about 6 hours a day.
  • 6 hours x 30W = 180W (0.18 kWh)
  • Your kWh price in the example is 2 DKK, so 2 x 0.18 kWh = 0.36 øre per day, or 131.4 DKK annually for the lamp.

This amount of course depends on the lamp you own and how much electricity it uses, as well as how long a day you have it on.

Most modern lamps can be set to turn off automatically if you wish, either via a sensor, or via a timer that turns on/off automatically according to the setting you have made.

#9 - Design and size of your garden lights

The design of garden lamps is the most important thing for many, as the lamp should fit the general decor and appearance of the garden and house.

For the same reason, we have LED garden lights in countless different designs and sizes, so you can find the right solution for your needs.

Size is also important, and it's a good idea to consider whether you need a large or smaller garden lamp.

For large gardens, it is often a good idea to choose the larger models, as they can illuminate larger areas without any problems.

The placement of the lamp is also important, as it has a major influence on the type of lamp you need.

For example, if you want light on the wall, you should choose a garden lamp that is specifically designed for this.

If you want opposite light down along the ground, you can choose , which can be placed directly in your beds or along your lawn.

Frequently asked questions about garden lights

Can all of them be used for garden lights?

Not all LED bulbs can be used outdoors, but fortunately the vast majority can these days. You can always look at the bulb's description or packaging to see if it is specifically suitable for outdoor use. For example, the vast majority of LED spot bulbs are classified for outdoor use, as this is a very popular use.

How many lumens should you choose?

The number of lumens in outdoor lamps for your garden, for example, depends on the power you want the light to have. If you want normal, cozy light, 500-700 lumens is fine. If you want a stronger light, for example for a sensor in relation to security, you can go for lamps with 1000 or more lumens to ensure a very strong light.
