4 things you should know about lemon squeezers before you buy

Here you get 4 things worth knowing before you choose your new lemon squeezer, so you get the one that best meets your needs.

#1 Materials

You can find lemon squeezers made from many different types of materials, such as metal, wood, glass, and plastic.

Some are even made from several different materials, such as electric squeezers, which are typically made of both metal and plastic.

When lemon squeezers are made of metal, they are often made of stainless steel, so the metal does not rust from the lemon juice and during washing.

Glass and plastic squeezers are often the cheapest types of lemon squeezers and can be purchased for very small amounts.

Wood and plastic wear out more easily than metal and glass, and therefore also get scratches more easily, but glass is of course more fragile and metal is therefore perhaps the most durable.

You should be aware that wood and soft plastic in some cases can become discolored by the citrus fruits you squeeze in them.

However, the color will not affect the function of the lemon squeezer.

#2 Design

Especially electric lemon squeezers are often available in many different colors and designs.

So you can easily find a lemon squeezer that fits into your home and matches your preferences.

There are both completely ordinary lemon squeezers in standard designs, but there are also more modern ones in sharp and quirky designs.

#3 Lemon squeezers with juice collector

You can find lemon squeezers that come with a juice collection bowl or container that gathers the juice.

Often you will see that the containers and bowls have deciliter measurements on the side, so you can easily see how much juice you have extracted from your fruits.

This makes it a little easier for you to get the right amount of juice for the recipe you need it for.

#4 Lemon squeezers with a jug

Not only do some lemon squeezers come with a juice collector in the form of a bowl or container, but there are also those that come with an included jug.

When the juice ends up directly in the jug, it becomes easy for you to serve, for example, freshly squeezed orange juice at the breakfast table.

Everything you need to know about the electric lemon squeezer

Before you buy an electric lemon squeezer, there may be a couple of things you would like to know in addition to the specifications mentioned above.

Drip spout or collector?

Electric lemon squeezers either have a drip spout where the lemon juice flows out or a collector to catch the juice.

If you choose a lemon squeezer with a drip spout, you will need something to collect the juice in, but typically most electric lemon squeezers are equipped with a container for juice collection.

Auto/on-off

Some electric lemon squeezers have an automatic on and off function, which works in such a way that when you press the fruit down on the squeezer, it starts, and when you then remove the fruit and the press, it stops.

They usually also come with a lid that you can place on when the squeezer is not in use, to prevent you from accidentally pressing down on it.

In addition, you can of course completely turn off the lemon squeezer just by unplugging it or removing the cord from the socket.

Non-slip feet

When you buy an electric lemon squeezer, it is a good idea to ensure that it has non-slip feet.

This way, you avoid the squeezer sliding around and accidentally pushing it, spilling juice, or worse, pushing it on the floor.

Strainer for pulp and seeds

If you are not so fond of pulp in your juice or if it is not needed in the recipe you are making, you can get electric lemon squeezers with a built-in strainer.

In addition to filtering out pulp, the strainer also collects seeds, so you also avoid these in your juice.

Some of these strainers are adjustable, allowing you to choose how much pulp should be filtered out.

This can be smart for you who would like a bit of pulp but just not too much.

Electric vs. manual lemon squeezer

Lemon squeezers come in two different versions, an electric or a manual version.

The electric lemon squeezer needs power via a power socket, after which the squeezer itself starts to rotate, to help you squeeze the lemon.

With the manual lemon squeezer, you only need to apply a little muscle power to press the lemons down over the lemon squeezer.

A manual lemon squeezer is typically very inexpensive and does not cost many handwashes, but the electric lemon squeezer is often the most effective.

The electric lemon squeezer can extract juice from citrus fruits almost to the very last drop, whereas it is somewhat harder to get all the juice with a manual pressing.

So if you want to get as much juice as possible out of citrus fruits, the electric lemon squeezer is the one to choose.

Different types of manual lemon squeezers

Not only are there electric and manual lemon squeezers, but there are also several different types of manual lemon squeezers.

There are mainly three different handheld lemon squeezers, where one is a type of pointed lemon squeezer with a handle, which is pressed down into the lemon while holding it.

The next has a small holder for a half lemon where it is placed in and the upper part of the lemon squeezer is pressed down over the lemon and the juice is squeezed out.

For both of these squeezers, you need a bowl or something underneath to catch the lemon juice.

Additionally, there is a small lemon squeezer or lemon press that can be placed on lemon slices or halves to press the small slices/halves without getting lemon juice on your hands.

Cleaning the lemon squeezer

Clean your lemon squeezer immediately so that juice and pulp do not have a chance to accumulate on your lemon squeezer.

It will make it considerably more difficult to clean if it is allowed to sit for a while, so be sure to rinse it clean afterwards.

If you have a dishwasher, you may want to choose a lemon squeezer that can withstand the dishwasher.

Most lemon squeezers can withstand the dishwasher, but parts from an electric lemon squeezer should not go in the dishwasher.

The motor and other electrical parts must never go in the dishwasher and it is always a good idea to read the instructions, so you do not mistakenly put the wrong parts in the dishwasher.

Also, wooden lemon squeezers do not do well in the dishwasher and should instead just be cleaned with dish soap, a dish brush, and water.

With us, you will also find many other useful kitchen tools, such as a hand mixer, egg cooker, timer, or was it something with a soda machine?
