Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable and adapters

In today's Denmark, most households have a laptop or a Mac, and often there are even several.

The popularity of laptops has increased exponentially in recent years, largely due to the rapid technological development in the area.

Computer technology is advancing at lightning speed, and its development seems to be accelerating year after year, making it sometimes difficult for the layman to keep up.

Despite constant updates, expansions, or similar for various technological products, there are certainly some things that remain the same for a long time.

The HDMI standard is an example of this, which you may have experienced if you have a Mac instead of a laptop. Around the country’s schools and workplaces, there are daily issues arising with various operating systems and computer brands because the projector or other technical equipment uses the HDMI standard, which Apple's Mac does not.

These issues could be resolved if schools acquired Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters and cables.

Fortunately, Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters and cables are not very expensive to obtain. Here on our site, we have a wide selection of both in various price ranges.

It is important to emphasize right away that Mini DisplayPort to HDMI only works from Mini DisplayPort to HDMI, but not the other way. Therefore, the cable or adapter cannot be used from the HDMI port on your computer to a Mini DisplayPort in your PC monitor.

Get your PowerPoint on the big projector

When you are standing there to make the big presentation with PowerPoint and video presentations either related to school work or at the workplace, it can quickly get tricky if you have a Mac and don’t have a cable or an adapter of the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI type.

Such an adapter can enable devices that normally do not wish to work together to do so. If you have a Mac and need to present a slide on a projector, it is necessary to have a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter or cable.

A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI can therefore alleviate a number of issues you may encounter in school and work-related contexts.

Additionally, the product is handy. It does not take up much space, allowing you to take it with you everywhere.

No more watching movies on a ridiculously small screen

Those of us who have not yet invested in an expensive and stylish Smart TV may know the experience of watching the latest episodes of a favorite series or a good long movie on a screen that is far too small.

If you have an Apple computer, you can now use a cable or an adapter of the Mini DisplayPort type to make streaming movies and TV much better. With a Mini DisplayPort adapter or cable, you can connect your Mac to your TV and get great sound and picture quality.

The right sound and picture quality

One of the many fantastic advantages of the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable is that you can also get sound out at the other end, which is a necessity if you want to stream a movie on your laptop and watch it on an external screen. Most people would find it quite a dragging experience if there is no sound on the movie.

This has not previously been an option without needing several cables. Today, many of the solutions are combined into the same connector, which also makes it much more user-friendly to use these solutions. Without sound or good image, you won’t get far, but with the right HDMI adapter, this is not a concern you need to have at all.

When it comes to resolution, you can today get up to 4K, which means a maximum resolution of 4096x2160. Previously, the maximum resolution was 1980x1080.

Our broad and budget-friendly selection features many different adapters and cables, all of the highest quality.

Adapter and cable - what’s the difference?

When you need to buy a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI and perhaps don’t know much about it in advance, the likelihood is high that you wonder whether you should buy a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable or a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.

It’s also easy to be in doubt because, in principle, both are actually adapters and at the same time also cables. Therefore, we will now specify what the difference between a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable is.

Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter: When you buy an adapter, you can convert a Mini DisplayPort connector in your computer to an HDMI female connector, allowing you to connect an HDMI cable to your device with a Mini DisplayPort connector.

Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable: When you buy a cable, you can convert a Mini DisplayPort connector in your computer to an HDMI male connector, allowing you to directly connect your device to, for example, an external monitor with an HDMI output.

Both cable and adapter can also be used as a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter cable. A cable does not, unlike an adapter, need an extra cable, since the connector type is “male to male”.

HDMI and DisplayPort - what’s the difference?

HDMI is today the standard when connecting one electronic device to another, while DisplayPort is not as widespread.

Different standards create a number of problems, as it requires extra equipment to connect two devices that do not belong to the same standard.

HDMI and DisplayPort share the feature of being able to transmit both picture and sound at up to 4K resolution, while they differ in terms of which devices they fit. Both HDMI and DisplayPort come in different types:

HDMI:

  • Standard HDMI (type A)
  • Mini HDMI (type B)
  • Micro HDMI (C)

DisplayPort:

  • DisplayPort
  • Mini DisplayPort

Resolution, image quality, and bandwidth

DisplayPort version 1.2 can support a resolution up to 3840x2160 pixels (4K) with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and supports all common formats within 3D.

In terms of bandwidth, it can handle 17.28 Gbps, while version 1.3 can go up to a resolution of 8192x4320 (8K) or two simultaneous 4K streams. There is also double the bandwidth at a full 32.4 Gbps.

HDMI version 1.4, as mentioned earlier, is the standard today. It supports the same 4K resolution as DisplayPort 1.2, but only at 30 Hz. HDMI 2.0 doubles the refresh rate with its 60 Hz, just as it increases bandwidth to 10.2-18 Gbps.

Sound

In terms of sound, there is really no difference between HDMI and Mini DisplayPort, as both in their latest versions support up to 8 channels of digital audio with up to 24-bit and 192 kHz.

Length

Most HDMI cables are relatively short (1-2 meters), but they do not have a defined maximum length they can be. If you want an HDMI cable over 2 meters, you can easily find it, but in that case, you will most likely need a signal booster, as the signal does not travel well over long distances.

In comparison, DisplayPort can deliver 4K video over a length up to 2 meters with a so-called passive cable. A passive cable goes up to 15 meters, but at that length, the image resolution will limit to 1080p (Full-HD).

Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt - what’s the difference?

Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt are not exactly the same, yet somewhat similar. Thunderbolt currently exists in 3 different types, and Thunderbolt 1 and 2 correspond to Mini DisplayPort, while Thunderbolt 3 (gen) uses a type C connection from USB.

How do you choose the right Mini DisplayPort to HDMI?

There is no wrong Mini DisplayPort to HDMI, as they all can do the same by default. What you should first and foremost pay attention to is whether you need a cable or an adapter.

Next, you might consider whether it’s worth paying a little extra to get a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI that delivers a resolution of 4K. In that case, one of the following might be worth looking at:

Next, consider how long your cable should be. You should be aware that the picture and sound quality deteriorates proportionally with the length of the cable, so in this case, the general rule is the shorter, the better.

Finally, it might also be worth thinking about whether your Mini DisplayPort to HDMI should do more than just connect your computer to an external monitor. Perhaps you might need not just one but two HDMI outputs and therefore need a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI splitter, or maybe you need, besides an HDMI output, to also use a VGA output and DVI output and therefore need a Mini DisplayPort Multi Adapter.

Different types of Mini DisplayPort

Mini DisplayPort to HDMI is just one of several different types of Mini DisplayPort adapters available on the market today. Which one you need depends on what you need to connect to each other.

Mini DisplayPort to DVI

A Mini DisplayPort to DVI is what you need if you want to establish a connection between your TV and your Mac one day.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA

If you someday want to connect your Apple computer to a regular PC monitor, then you need a Mini DisplayPort to VGA.

Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort

With a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort, you can connect a Mac to an extra computer monitor or a TV.

DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort

With the small, USB-like DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort, you can connect two different types of DisplayPort cables to each other.
