Mini HDMI Cables and Adapters - Easy Connection of Video Cameras

Here on the page, you will find our selection of mini HDMI cables and adapters, which are most often used to connect, for example, a video camera to a TV or computer.

Most of us recognize the HDMI connector from, for instance, televisions and computers, and the mini HDMI connector resembles the HDMI connector in a smaller version.

Mini HDMI is also referred to as HDMI-C, while the standard HDMI connector is called HDMI-A; the function is the same, namely transferring high-quality image and sound.

Just like the standard HDMI cable, there are several different versions of mini HDMI cables, and the versions often depend on the resolution that the connector can handle.

If you are unsure which mini HDMI cable or adapter you need, read on below, where we have gathered some useful knowledge.

5 Things You Should Know When Looking for a Mini HDMI Cable and Adapter

A mini HDMI cable comes in several variations, and it's not entirely trivial which variant you choose.

The variant can matter both for the resolution you receive transferred, but also for the price, which is why we have gathered some useful knowledge that can be helpful when looking for mini HDMI cables and adapters.

#1 - Mini HDMI Cable or Adapter

When looking for a mini HDMI connector, you have the option to choose a cable with mini HDMI or a mini HDMI adapter, and what you need is entirely up to you.

A mini HDMI adapter can be useful if you already have a standard HDMI cable; here you can get an adapter with a female connector in HDMI-A and a male connector in HDMI-C.

You can also use an adapter the other way around, so you connect the adapter to, for example, the television and plug a mini HDMI cable into the adapter and over to the mini HDMI connector in the camera.

The mini HDMI adapter thus converts the cable from either HDMI to mini HDMI, or from mini HDMI to HDMI.

The mini HDMI cable does a similar thing to the mini HDMI adapter; often, there is a mini HDMI connector at one end and an HDMI connector at the other.

You can also find cables with mini HDMI connectors at both ends, but this is rarely necessary, as the connector type is not that widespread.

When you have used a video camera or a digital camera to record video or sound and want to display these on your TV, you will often need a mini HDMI connector to connect to the camera itself, and it is in this regard that mini HDMI cables and adapters come to your aid.

#2 - Resolution in Mini HDMI

The resolution in the mini HDMI connector is the same as in a standard HDMI connector; there is no difference, and this means that regardless of whether you want to transfer a 4K signal or not, you can find different HDMI cables that can handle this.

Therefore, you should be aware of what the transfer resolution is for the individual mini HDMI connectors, but also the resolution at different numbers of Hertz.

For most newer mini HDMI connectors, it is true that they can transfer 4K resolution at 30 Hz, but there are also mini HDMI connectors on the market that can transfer 4K at 60 or 120 Hz.

For most people, 4K at 30 Hz is fully functional, and if you are unsure whether you need a 4K connector or can settle for full HD resolution, you can check your camera's manual to see if the recording is done in 4K or full/ultra HD.

Unless your camera records video in 4K, it is not necessary to have a mini HDMI connector for 4K.

Full HD resolution is 1920x1080 pixels, and 4K is 3840x2160 pixels.

#3 - Connector Combinations for Mini HDMI

Mini HDMI cables and adapters come in different connector combinations, so you can find a connector combination for any need.

The different connector combinations are:

Mini HDMI

HDMI

Male

Male

Male

Female

Female

Male

Female

Female

You can also find a mini HDMI cable with the combination of mini HDMI to mini HDMI, both with male and female connectors at both ends.

Which combination you should choose depends on which connectors you have; typically there is a female connector in your camera, so you will need a male connector on the cable, at the other end of the cable there often also needs to be a male connector, as the HDMI port on the television is often a female connector.

#4 - Length of Mini HDMI Cable

Generally speaking, the shorter the cable, the better it is, but you cannot always avoid needing a slightly longer cable depending on the distance between the devices.

You can find mini HDMI cables down to 0.5 meters and up to 5 meters or more, notably 2-way cables also known as inactive cables.

If you need a mini HDMI cable that is longer than 3 meters, it is recommended that you find an active cable, where the signal can only flow in one direction, as this way you will have the best signal with the least possible loss of resolution.

Whether you need a mini HDMI cable or any other signal cable, it is always recommended that you keep the cable as short as possible, as there will always be a small power loss in all cables and this increases with length.

#5 - Quality of Mini HDMI

When you need to choose a mini HDMI cable, consider acquiring a cable of good quality; it can sometimes be difficult to assess the quality of a cable without an engineering degree, but as a rule of thumb, the cables in the local supermarket are often of a slightly lower quality than the slightly more expensive brands.

However, it is not always the case that the price correlates with quality and if you want to be absolutely sure to have the best of the best, and also the most expensive on the market, you should choose a mini HDMI connector in version 2.1 with 24-carat gold.

BUT… it is very rarely necessary to make such a large investment, and you can easily find really good mini HDMI connectors and cables relatively cheaply.

It is often the version of the mini HDMI connector that is decisive for the quality, resolution, and speed of the cable.

If you do not need 4K, you can advantageously choose a cable in version 1.4, which is fully adequate for almost everyone for TVs without 4K, computers, and most gaming consoles.

If you want a 4K cable, you need to find a cable in version 2.0, and if you want to be future-proof and ready for 8K and high transfer speeds, choose a mini HDMI in version 2.1.
