The Story of Ooono

Ooono is both a very effective traffic alarm and a company that has specialized in designing and developing smart products for traffic monitoring.

The Ooono traffic alarm was developed in record time by Christian Walther, as he suddenly got the opportunity to create a traffic alarm.

The project had to meet the Christmas shopping of 2017, and therefore the timeline was very tight; at the same time, there were high expectations for a traffic alarm, which did not take up more space than a 5 krone, had a minimal power consumption, and could both light up and sound upon events on the roads.

The many requirements for the finished product also influenced the demands placed on both development and production, and along with the tight deadline, Christian Walther had to work quickly.

From idea to finished product, it only took about half a year, and already within a week, both specifications and development budget were in place.

The Ooono traffic alarm was developed in close collaboration with CB Svendsen A/S, and Ooono has since entered into a partnership for the development of an assault alarm, which was developed by four students at VIA university college.

Ooono - known for effective traffic alarms

If you do not know Ooono from the TV commercials with a car passing a speed camera and the driver exclaiming “Oooo no”, you may know it for the effective traffic alerting, which does not take up more than a 5 krone.

The Ooono traffic alarm has been developed in several versions since the first version in 2017, with the Ooono Co-driver being the latest new model.

Ooono is known for an effective network of traffic alarms and support in more than 50 countries, which means that the effectiveness is also considerable abroad.

Ooono has swiftly established a network of drivers that help each other to warn about challenges on the road, whether it is traffic accidents or speed checks.

Previously, it was often an app you checked before you moved on your route, to see if there were any obstacles, but the updates on various apps were often outdated the moment you sat behind the wheel.

Ooono was one of the first major players in the market for traffic alarms, and therefore the huge success required many to buy the alarm and report when something happened on the road.

At this point, Ooono was very quick to build this reporting network, which meant that the success was significant and grew very quickly.

Unlike many competitors, Ooono only has a single button based on the idea that there is no reason to make things more complicated than they already are.

5 good reasons to choose Ooono traffic alarm

There are many traffic alarms available in the Danish market, and the alarms are often very close in price; therefore, it can be a challenge to figure out why you should choose one over the other.

We have gathered here 5 good reasons to choose an Ooono traffic alarm when you also want to avoid speed cameras and obstacles on the road.

#1 - Warning in good time

An Ooono traffic alarm can function as a pair of extra eyes that keep an eye on traffic all the time, even if you are a bit inattentive.

By leveraging other drivers' observations, the app notifies you in good time when there is an obstacle ahead, whether it is a speed check or a traffic jam, allowing you ample time to react.

You have probably experienced driving on the highway at a proper speed, and within two seconds, you may have to hit the brakes, with your heart racing and passengers doing what they can to hold on while you struggle to stop the car before hitting the one in front.

There may not have been any indication that a traffic jam could be forming, or were you inattentive for half a minute?

Such a situation can be better avoided when you have an Ooono traffic alarm installed in your car, as there would have been an alert indicating that there could be obstacles ahead, allowing you to be prepared.

This is where Ooono's traffic alarm acts as a pair of extra eyes, as either oncoming or cars further ahead in the line can report to be cautious.

#2 - Reliable network of data

Ooono traffic alarms provide and have access to the strongest driver communities and data partners, meaning the data reported from Ooono traffic alarm users can quickly be processed and sent out to other users.

This means you easily have access to a large network of both data processors and eyes in traffic, no matter where you are.

It also means that you can still use your Ooono traffic alarm in more than 50 countries, allowing you to focus on your driving rather than notifications on your phone, as was done before Ooono traffic alarm.

#3 - The app does the heavy lifting

Even though the Ooono traffic alarm is a small device you can easily install in the car, it still requires an app to function optimally.

The app does all the hard work, such as sending data about clicks, position, and events.

It is also through the app that you can change settings, notifications, etc., and it all runs naturally in the background, so you only need to focus on pressing your Ooono traffic alarm.

When you experience a speed check that you are not warned about, you can press once on your Ooono, which then sends a notification to the data center about the speed alert via connection to the phone and app, after which all drivers within a certain radius of your location are warned about it.

The Ooono traffic alarm connects to your phone and the app via Bluetooth and most often, you do not even need to open the app, as the connection works automatically.

#4 - Design and mounting of Ooono traffic alarm

The Ooono traffic alarm is designed to be discreet, which is why there is only a single button, and the whole unit is kept in a dark color that blends well with the interior colors of most cars.

The device does not take up more space than a 5-krone and can be placed on all flat surfaces of the dashboard, using the included double-sided tape.

If you get a new car and want to take your Ooono traffic alarm with you, you can easily get some new tape, which makes it easy to install the device in the new car.

#5 - Information about traffic ahead

With a traffic alarm from Ooono, you will be notified when other drivers report an incident by pressing their device, including:

  • traffic accidents
  • traffic congestion
  • road work
  • mobile and stationary speed checks
  • speed boxes

However, you should be aware that Ooono is fully legal in Denmark, but in other EU countries, there may be differences in legislation regarding the use of traffic alarms.
