Pioneer was founded in 1930 by the Japanese Nozomu Matsumoto, and is based in Tokyo.

Matsumoto founded the company after he listened to music through hi-fi speakers for the first time, and was so overwhelmed that he had to give others the same experience.

This has also laid the foundation for the entire company's passion for good sound quality.

The company played a significant role in the development of cable TV and Laser Disc players, as well as the first removable car radio, DVD, and DVD recording. It has also helped produce several televisions.

In 2010, however, Pioneer stopped producing televisions and instead chose to focus on DJ software, which was also released that same year.
