The rice cooker is a fantastic kitchen tool for you if you want to cook rice to perfection easily and quickly, every time.

It is easy and practical to use and does not require much prep work. It has never been easier to cook perfect rice for various rice dishes, so quickly and effortlessly.

At avXperten, we have a sea of kitchen tools, which can help with everyday cooking. For example, see Food Processor, air fryer and mini ovens.

5 things to consider before buying a rice cooker

When you are about to invest in a rice cooker, it can be a bit overwhelming to figure out which rice cooker will suit you best.

Besides just being able to cook rice, there are also many other factors that can be decisive for how good the rice cooker really is.

Below are 5 points that are good to keep in mind. Hopefully, it will help you make the right choice.

#1 Rice Cooker's Capacity

Rice cookers come in many different shapes and sizes. Therefore, it is important to choose a rice cooker that can hold enough rice for you and your family's needs.

  • If you are a large family of 4-5 people, you should not choose a rice cooker that is smaller than 1 L.
  • If you live alone and only need to make rice for yourself, you can easily get by with the small 0.6 L rice cooker.

At avXperten, you will find rice cookers with a capacity between 0.6 L - 3.5 L. So there is definitely one that fits your needs.

#2 Cooking rice in a rice cooker or pot?

Most people here probably cook rice either in a pot or use a rice cooker. These are also the two most commonly used methods worldwide. However, the pot is actually not such a good choice after all.

When you cook rice in a pot, there are many things that can go wrong if you don't keep an eye on it.

The rice can easily boil over or even burn at the bottom if you are not attentive. It is easy to disturb the rice's cooking process, and this can even affect the texture..

With a rice cooker, there are no worries. You just set it up, and the rice will take care of itself. This way, you can also use your time on some of the other everyday chores.

Therefore, a rice cooker will be perfect for you if you don't have much time for cooking but do not want to compromise on dry and tasteless rice.

#3 Various kitchen tools for cooked rice

If you want cooked rice, there are many ways to cook your rice. There are several methods, and some are certainly more effective than others.

You can, for example, cook your rice in a slow cooker, steam cooker, or just in a pot.

However, none of the above can beat a rice cooker. This is partly because the rice cooker can stand and take care of itself without you having to check on it.

Expensive rice cookers can even adjust themselves if there is either too little or too much water, so you always get perfect rice, regardless of having too much or too little water.

#4 Included Parts

A rice pot and a rice paddle for scooping out the rice are always included when you buy a rice cooker, regardless of the price.

The measuring cup is used to measure the amount of rice and water that should go into the rice cooker to create perfect rice.

The mixing ratios can vary depending on the type of rice you use and which rice cooker it is. Therefore, you should try it out until you find the right balance.

You sometimes also get a steam insert that can be used to steam fish and vegetables while you cook the rice.

#5 Rice Pot Material

There are many different rice pots built from various materials. The materials of the pots affect the outcome of the rice.

Most of our rice pots are made from non-stick material, which ensures that the cooked rice does not stick to the pot, making it easy to scoop out with the rice paddle afterwards.

Most of our pots are made from aluminum, which can cook the rice faster since it takes less time to heat aluminum than, for example, ceramic.

Additionally, the non-stick coating on the aluminum pot is also easy to clean, as food residues and similar easily slide off the coating.

Another good alternative to aluminum is stainless steel. Stainless steel also does not take long to heat up and is likewise easy to clean afterwards.

Rice pots can be found in these materials:

  • Non-stick aluminum
  • Stainless steel
  • Ceramic
  • Carbon fiber
  • Cast iron

How to Use a Rice Cooker

When you need to cook rice in a rice cooker, it does not require much time or effort. Below is a small guide on how to cook rice in a rice cooker.

1. Measuring Rice and Water

The first step is to figure out how many people the rice should serve. Then use the measuring cup to measure how much rice should go into the rice pot.

2. Rinse the Rice

Pour the rice into the pot and rinse it under running water a few times until the water from the rice becomes clear.

Rice contains a lot of starch, which can affect the cooked rice's texture and taste if it is not rinsed off properly.

3. Place the rinsed rice in the rice cooker

Once the rice is rinsed and the last water has been drained from the rice pot, fill the pot again with the amount of water that corresponds to the amount of rice you have.

Note: This mixing ratio is not general and can vary between different rice cookers.

4. Start the Rice Cooker

When both the rice and water are in the pot, simply place the lid on and start the rice cooker by pressing the button on the front of the cooker.

5. The Rice is Now Ready to Serve

When the rice is finished, you will hear a small clicking sound. It is the button you pressed in step 4, which has now popped back up to indicate that the rice is now cooked.
