What does a router actually do?
Simply put, a router is the box that sends information from the vast internet to your devices that are connected to your network.
However, there is a bit more to it than just that!
Do you need a router?
A router is necessary to get wireless internet in your home and is needed to relay the internet you have available to your devices, provided they cannot be connected directly to the wall with an ethernet cable.
Your router and the network it creates have a specific IP address, which is unique to each individual router.
This IP address is the same for all the devices connecting to your network and ensures that the security is proper regarding unauthorized data packets from other IP addresses.
Your IP address is also used technically so that the router knows which data packets belong to your devices.
You can compare it to a regular postal service.
The postman has a number of packages to deliver to different addresses; if these packages did not have an address on them, he wouldn't know where they were supposed to go.
The same goes for your router; it has millions of data packets that need to go to the right IP addresses.
Each data packet has a destination, and it is the router's job to ensure that they arrive at the right place.
Routers are not just for WiFi
In addition to wireless networks, you can usually also connect an ethernet cable from your device into the router to get a stable internet connection.
This can be advantageous as wired connections rarely get interrupted, whereas WiFi can be affected, for example, if there are many users on the same WiFi connection.
A router is often used in office environments for both WiFi and wired connections.
However, you can easily find routers that can handle many users, which is an advantage if you live in a household or a collective where many people use the internet simultaneously.
What is a MESH router?
MESH is considered more or less the future of wireless networking.
A MESH network typically consists of a MESH router with associated Access points that can boost the signal from the router so it is more effective in all rooms of the house or workplace.
A big problem previously was that the WiFi signal was very weak in corners of the home, especially in larger and older homes with solid walls and other obstacles that weaken the signal.
MESH uses devices to create a wider and stronger signal in larger homes/buildings.
With a MESH system, your router sends the signal out to the various access points in the home, which can then send it on to additional access points or to your devices.
In this way, you can get the same good signal throughout the home, not just close to your main router.
A very popular solution that uses this principle is developed by Ubiquiti.
Ubiquiti has established an entire company around effective WiFi signals, using the fundamental principles of MESH technology in their products.
4G WiFi modem - Take the internet on the go
If you are someone who is often on the go and are quite tired of not having any internet or experiencing poor WiFi from the train or your phone's hotspot, then a 4G modem is just for you.
A 4G modem uses a SIM card to access the mobile 4G network, which you can then insert into your computer to gain access to the internet.
This is an incredibly smart solution, as the 4G signal can be picked up anywhere, so you can always be online even when you're not at home or at work.
Before long, we will also see the spread of 5G, and there will likely be a number of 5G modems that provide the same benefits, just with even faster speeds.
5G opens up entirely new possibilities with extremely fast 5G modems.
This page will continuously be updated as new 5G products come to market, ensuring you always have the absolute best internet, no matter where you are.
Router with WiFi 6
- WiFi 6 is the latest standard in wireless network signals.
This new standard comes with a number of improvements, including increased speed, better security, and better stability.
- WiFi 6 is still very new but will undoubtedly take over large parts of the market as its spread increases.
More and more manufacturers have started focusing on routers that can provide WiFi 6 signals, so we can all enjoy lightning-fast wireless internet at home.

5G router - coming soon
5G will be the new standard for mobile networks, but it will also open up opportunities with so-called 5G broadband and associated 5G routers.
5G can achieve incredibly high speeds on wireless connections, which means that even private individuals can achieve very high speeds with their personal network setup via 5G.
5G is being rolled out and will in the future replace the old 4G signal.
This page will continuously be updated as the new 5G routers land, so you can get the best in wireless networking as soon as it becomes available.
Poor and slow WiFi speeds will be a thing of the past with 5G, which opens up speeds of up to several Gbps.
Imagine being able to download music, movies, and games in just seconds with your wireless connection instead of waiting for hours with a slow connection.
5G has undoubtedly come to stay and is already spreading in most of the world.

Having a wireless router in the home is a great advantage. Many of our devices rely on an internet connection - whether they are stationary or mobile.
Previously, it was necessary to pull an network cable from the entrance to a computer to obtain an internet connection. This may seem quite 'old-fashioned' when we look at the development that has occurred in this area.
Today, almost all newer devices have a built-in wireless network card that allows you to send the signal to all your devices with a wireless router. This applies to both desktop and laptop computers, as well as tablets, iPads, and mobile phones that can pull Wi-Fi through a wireless network.
It would also be an almost overwhelming task to set up distribution boxes and pull cables around all the rooms in the house to achieve internet access where it is needed.
Today, you can set up a wireless router, which you connect to the entrance via a network cable. Once this is installed, you have already created your own wireless network that everyone can use – on all the devices that can benefit from using Wi-Fi.
Wireless routers provide fast and secure connections
In our large selection of wireless routers, you will easily find the router that meets your internet needs throughout the home. It is also a cheap solution compared to having to pull network cable connections to the rooms where you want internet access. Especially if you are a family with children or young people in the house, a wireless router will be the perfect choice. Almost all children and young people today have their own mobile phone, tablet, iPad, and/or a laptop – and these require an internet connection. All household devices can be connected to one of our wireless routers, allowing them to automatically switch to the wireless network when they are within range. This will save on the data available in the mobile subscription.
The security must also be in order. When you set up a wireless router, you send a signal out from the router. If you have closely residing neighbors, this signal will be visible to others than your household. This does not practically cause problems since you can equip your wireless network with a security code that must be entered on the devices that have rightful access to use your network. Once this security code is entered, the devices can use the wireless network – also without having to enter it every time the internet is used. It is WPA/WPA2 encryption standards that ensure that only individuals who have been given the access code can connect to the internet and use your network.
Wireless Wi-Fi Routers – different models and speeds
In our large selection, you will see that there are models with and without antennas – and the models have different speeds – Mbps. This speed is an indicator of how fast – and how much data – the router transmits. This should be compared to the internet speed that your provider delivers – and the amount you pay for. A large router can easily handle smaller speeds, while a small router cannot manage larger amounts than it is constructed for. Remember to choose a router suitable for your needs, such as a smart Ubiquiti router like the new ubiquiti AmpliFi that can handle it all. We carry models that use frequency bands from 2.4 GHz – 5 GHz. Gigahertz/GHz) is a measurement for the frequency that the wireless signal uses. 2.4 GHz is the most commonly used frequency in Denmark – both for wireless routers, but also for doorbells, baby monitors, phones, etc. Therefore, this signal can be disrupted by other devices on the same frequency. 5 GHz is not as widespread and can in some cases perform better. However, the range of 5 GHz is slightly shorter but practically not a problem in private homes. You can also increase the range of your wireless signal from your router using a WiFi extender or WiFi booster that extends the strength of the signal.
Wireless routers are for Wi-Fi
The wireless routers you see here create wireless Wi-Fi from the internet signal that is fed into the router via a network cable. These routers should not be confused with 3G or 4G routers – or routers that use SIM cards. Find these routers in our overview if that is what you desire.
Most wireless routers can be used as switches, which essentially work like a distribution box, from which cables can be run to multiple devices if desired.
Some models are also equipped with a USB port. This can be used to connect USB devices to your wireless network. This could be a printer, enabling anyone connected to the network to use the printer wirelessly.
You can also use this port for a USB stick or an external hard drive and share data from here with other users – for example, family members if you have the router at home, or colleagues if you use the router at work.
