The story of Sennheiser

Sennheiser (Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG) is a German company founded by Fritz Sennheiser in 1945.

The company was initially called Laboratorium Wennebostel and started out developing measuring instruments and sold them among others to Siemens.

In 1958, Fritz Sennheiser chose to rename the company to what we all know today simply as Sennheiser.

The company's first task in audio equipment in collaboration with Siemens was to rebuild a microphone model from an Austrian supplier that was released in 1946 as MD 1.

Later that same year, Sennheiser began independently developing their own microphone, which they released under the name MD 2 in 1947.

From there, things picked up with their further development of microphones, expanding their range to include the shotgun microphone MD 82 in 1956 and in 1960, the dynamic MD 421 microphone, which they still produce and sell.

In collaboration with the TV station NDR, Sennheiser developed a wireless microphone system that could be used for professional TV purposes, later marketed as Microport.

Then in the 1960s, Sennheiser began extensive research and development in condenser microphone technology used for capturing sound for filming equipment and TV studios.

Sennheiser later began developing some of the world's first headphones, which became classics with their open-back design and yellow ear cushions.
