Speaker cables for the stereo system - Get efficient and clear sound to your speakers

Here on our site, you will find a large selection of speaker cables that can be used to connect an external speaker to, for example, a stereo system.

This type of cable can also be used for a setup in the car, which requires a bit more than just setting up a regular system at home.

The cables come in many different sizes, colors, and types, each specifically suitable for different needs.

If you feel a bit overwhelmed by the selection, you can read below, where we highlight some of the most important features you should know about before you make your purchase of speaker cables.

7 things you should consider before buying speaker cables

When choosing the right speaker cable, there are a few points you should consider beforehand.

Read below, where we guide you through some of the most important specifications of speaker cables that are worth considering before your purchase.

We will cover some of the different speaker cables available on the market and provide information about their characteristics.

You will also gain insight into the varying thicknesses and cable lengths of speaker cables in our selection.

#1 - OFC Speaker Cable

OFC stands for "Oxygen Free Copper" and is a type of speaker cable with conductors made of 100% pure copper.

This provides unmatched sound quality and is often the preferred choice if you're looking to improve the quality of the bass in your speakers.

Due to the entirely pure copper in this type of cable, the sound will be incredibly rich in quality, as the conductors have no form of interference from other substances in the cables.

#2 - CCA Speaker Cable

CCA stands for "Copper Clad Aluminium" and is, unlike OFC cables, not made of 100% pure copper.

This type of speaker cable has conductors made of aluminum covered with a layer of copper.

Aluminum conducts electricity relatively effectively, although not quite as effectively as pure copper.

This type of cable is often the budget choice and is perfectly fine if you are not aiming for the 100% best sound quality.

#3 - Cu-ETP Speaker Cable

Cu-ETP stands for "Electrolytic Tough-Pitch" and is made from nearly pure copper.

A speaker cable of this type is known to have 99.90% copper in it.

It is very suitable for various electronic components, and this is because electrolytic copper is known for its good conductivity.

It is a sturdy speaker cable that can be good to use for large floor speakers with deep bass or with passive subwoofers.

You can use this quality cable for both your speakers and the system in your car.

The Cu-ETP speaker cable is visually known for having a clear color, allowing you to see the copper in it.

#4 - Speaker Cable Thickness - What to Choose?

The thickness is important for your speaker cables, as it pertains to both the visual and practical aspects.

It is indeed important to choose a thickness that looks nice in your setup and does not disturb your decor too much.

Conversely, it is also important to choose the right thickness to ensure you get the best sound quality for your setup.

Thicknesses are available in many different measurements, depending on the type of cable, such as:

  • 0.5 mm speaker cable
  • 0.75 mm speaker cable
  • 1.5 mm speaker cable
  • 2.5 mm speaker cable
  • 4 mm speaker cable

For example, for CCA cables, you should choose a good thickness, as they are a bit less efficient at transmitting sound without interference than an OFC speaker cable.

OFC speaker cables are, however, incredibly effective at transmitting sound with their 100% copper conductors; therefore, you can easily get away with a very thin wire when you choose this type.

#5 - Color of Your Speaker Cable

The color of your speaker cables is obviously just a matter of your personal taste and needs for decor.

The color can be very important for the overall design of your setup, as the wrong colors can be quite ugly and disturbing in your decor.

Here on the site, you will find different colors for your speaker cables, such as:

  • White speaker cable
  • Red/black speaker cable
  • Clear/transparent speaker cable (showing off the copper)

The last-mentioned color is actually just a way to bring out the beautiful copper color, as the outer plastic layer is transparent, giving you a lovely, shiny copper look.

#6 - Length of Your Speaker Cables

When it comes to setups with speakers, there may be a need for many different cable lengths.

Some people pull their speakers incredibly far away from the stereo system, for example, to every corner of the room or even all the way out on a terrace or similar.

For this reason, we offer a wide selection of lengths for your speaker cable, where you will find lengths such as:

  • 10 meter speaker cable
  • 20 meter speaker cable
  • 25 meter speaker cable
  • 50 meter speaker cable
  • 100 meter speaker cable

Always make sure to choose a cable that is slightly longer than the length you think you need.

You can always adjust an overly long cable to be shorter, but the other way around is much more difficult, and for most, completely impossible.

See the entire large selection of cables at the top of this page, and remember our good advice to ensure you get the absolute best speaker cable for your needs.

#7 - Speaker Plugs and Other Accessories for Speaker Cables

Once you have purchased a speaker cable, you might as well go all the way with getting some accessories for it.

There are several different types of speaker plugs that you can attach to the ends of your speaker cables, and they can be purchased separately and in a specific quantity.

They all contribute to ensuring a smooth and secure connection of speaker cables to either your speakers or your amplifier.

  • Speaker banana plugs. These are easy to install, and they can be used for cables of up to 4.5 mm. They are the most widely used of all types of speaker plug types.
  • Speaker spade connectors. They resemble forks in their appearance with their two prongs. They can fit into either side of a loose screw terminal, which you tighten securely.
  • Speaker DIN connectors. They are often used for older speakers.
  • Speaker Speakon connectors. The use of speaker Speakon connectors can provide a short-circuit-proof connection for the speaker connection.
  • Speaker wall plugs. A solution for you if you want to terminate your speaker cables in a wall box.

There is also other equipment that your speakers can greatly benefit from, such as these:
