Travel Adapter India - Keep your devices charged while on vacation to India

Are you going on vacation abroad and need to bring a lot of gadgets and various electronic devices with you? Then you'll likely need to be able to charge them as well.

Here, it can be important to investigate which plugs and voltages the relevant country you're traveling to uses, as this way you can purchase a corresponding travel adapter.

Otherwise, it can quickly become difficult to access power, as not many countries use the same plugs as in Denmark, especially if you are traveling outside of Europe.

If you have several electronic devices in your suitcase, you should consider which travel adapter you need to buy.

This way, you can be sure to have access to power while you are on vacation and be able to recharge your devices, or just power your razor or hairdryer.

If you do not have direct access to power, it can quickly become a poor vacation when you cannot charge your smartphone or cameras, so you can take pictures and generally communicate around you.

4 Things to Consider When Buying a Travel Adapter for India

If you need to buy a travel adapter to take on vacation, you should consider several things to ensure that you get a travel adapter suitable for your vacation destination.

Below you can find a few examples of considerations to help you better assess which type of travel adapter you need.

#1 - Plug Types for Travel Adapters in India?

The first thing to consider when looking at travel adapters is which plug types are used in the relevant country you're traveling to.

When it comes to India, you can generally find 3 different plug types depending on where you are located, and this is something you should be aware of when buying a travel adapter.

The most common type of plug in India is the Type D plug, which was previously the standard in the UK but is now primarily used in India and South Africa.

The Type D plug is recognizable by having 3 pins arranged in a triangle, where the ground pin is at the top and is a bit longer and thicker than the other two pins.

Additionally, you may also find the Type C plug in some places, also known as a contour plug or Europlug, as it is very widespread in Europe, including Denmark.

If you encounter such a plug, you would not need an adapter as it will already fit your Danish devices.

Plug Types in India:

  • Type C
  • Type D
  • Type M

The last plug type, Type M, resembles the Type D plug but is more triangular in shape; however, it also has the 3 pins with two current-carrying pins and one ground pin.

Both Type D and Type M plugs are built to be mostly compatible with the Europlug, so as long as your devices do not have a plug with a ground connection, it should be possible to use the Europlug in most sockets in India.

Some travel adapters also have built-in USB ports that you can use to charge your devices you have brought on your trip.

Many chargers for smartphones allow for a regular USB connection, and you can thus use the adapter to charge your smartphone directly from the adapter without needing to connect multiple smaller adapters to it.

#2 - Voltage for travel adapter to India

In addition to investigating which plugs you will need for your travel destination, you should also explore what voltage they have on the electrical network since it may differ from what we have in Denmark.

Usually, most countries use a voltage of 230 V - 240 V for their electrical networks, meaning that most electronic devices are built to operate on this voltage.

However, there are some countries that use an electrical voltage of 110 V, which is just under half of what we are used to in Denmark.

This can mean that if you need to use your devices abroad, they may not work as well and efficiently since they aren't getting the same amount of power as they require, or they may not work at all.

In India, however, their electrical network also uses a voltage of 230 V, just like Denmark, so you don't have to worry about needing a converter to change the current to a 230 V voltage instead.

It can therefore be a good idea to check what voltage the electrical network in your destination uses, as this can affect how your devices function.

#3 - Use the Travel Adapter at Home

If you happen to be on a trip and find some electronics you want to bring home, it can be challenging if the power plug does not fit into the outlets at home.

This is where you can also use your travel adapter if, for example, it has multiple settings, allowing you to use your Indian devices at home in Denmark so that your travel purchases are not in vain.

A travel adapter will often have various plugs, especially if it is a universal adapter allowing access to multiple inputs and outputs.

In this way, you can use the travel adapter not only when you are away on vacation but also for your devices at home.

#4 - Consider extra power while traveling

If you are going on vacation in India, it can be a good idea to be aware that the electrical network in India is not as stable as in Denmark, so you might need other options for charging your devices at times.

It may be a good idea to consider whether you should invest in a couple of power banks to take with you on vacation.

Power banks are essentially larger batteries that you can use to charge your devices when you need to, even when you do not have any power available.

This way, you can better ensure that you have access to power, so you won’t have periods where you cannot recharge your smartphone or use the hairdryer in the morning.
