Travel Adapter Switzerland - Charge Danish Electronics in Switzerland
Here on the site, you will find our selection of travel adapters for Switzerland, which you can use in Swiss outlets to charge your Danish electronics.
It is not always possible to charge your Danish electronics in Swiss outlets, as the plug on the device simply does not fit into the socket.
There are many different types of plugs around the world, and there can also be differences in the voltage supplied in the sockets in some countries, and although the travel adapter cannot change the voltage, it can ensure that you can use your plug even abroad.
If you are traveling to Switzerland and want to be sure to charge, for example, smartphone, computer, or tablet, you may need a travel adapter for Switzerland.
5 Things You Should Consider When Looking for a Travel Adapter for Switzerland
A travel adapter for electronics is often relatively cheap, and it can sometimes be absolutely essential if you want to charge your Danish electronics abroad.
There are therefore some things that you can advantageously consider when looking for a travel adapter for Switzerland, and we have gathered some examples below.
#1 - Voltage for Travel Adapter Switzerland
In some countries, only about 110 V at 60 Hz is supplied, while in others it is 230V at 50 Hz; there can indeed be quite a significant difference in the voltage supplied in the sockets around the world.
It is important that you are aware of the voltage supplied in the outlet when you are going to travel, because the travel adapter does not change the voltage supplied, but only which type of plug you can use in the socket.
In Denmark, our standard voltage in the outlet is 230V at 50 Hz, just as it is in most of the EU, and although Switzerland is not a member of the EU, many of the same standards used in the EU are also used here.
Switzerland also supplies 230V at 50Hz, so regarding the voltage, there is no reason for concern, but the design of the plugs in Switzerland can be a little different in some places in Switzerland.
#2 - Plug Types for Travel Adapter Switzerland
There are primarily 2 plug types in Swiss outlets, one is called Type C and the other Type J.
Type C is the European standard and this plug type is also used in Denmark, but it is a relatively new plug type and therefore not widely adopted everywhere yet.
Type C outlets replace the various plug types from many countries in a sort of smooth transition around the EU.
This means that in most hotels and in larger cities generally, you will often be able to use your Danish plugs, but if you go outside the city and need to stay privately or in a smaller hotel, you may still encounter the Type J plug, which is a three-pin plug where the pins are slightly offset from each other.
If you encounter the Swiss Type J plugs, you will not be able to charge your Danish electronics unless you have a travel adapter for Switzerland.
#3 - Special Features for Travel Adapter Switzerland
There are several different models of travel adapters for Switzerland, and some of these models may have more features than just converting a Type J plug to a Type C plug.
For example, some of the travel adapters have a USB-A or USB-C input that allows you to charge your phone directly from the outlet, thus without a charging block.
Here you need to be aware of whether you need a USB-A or a USB-C plug, so you avoid issues connecting your charging cable.
In other models, there is a small bulb that can function as a night lamp, or an LED diode that can indicate whether the adapter has power or not.
There are various functions, so if you want a specific feature in your new travel adapter, look for whether the model has this feature.
#4 - Travel Adapter Switzerland with or without Ground
Some models of travel adapters for Switzerland have the option for grounding, meaning you can connect plugs with ground to the adapter.
Other models of travel adapters do not have this option, and this can cause problems if your electronics have a plug with, for example, 3 pins.
Often, when a travel adapter offers grounding, this is done via a Schuko plug, where the ground connection is in the collar of the plug, and there is not space for the third pin from the Danish Type K plugs.
Therefore, you should be aware of which plug type the travel adapter converts to and from, and ensure that they match the plugs you have for your electronic devices.
Usually, there is no need for ground connection for smaller electrical devices, and therefore most people will have a standard 2-pin plug, such as a Type C plug.
Ground connection is often only needed for larger electronics, such as large appliances, but you probably will rarely need to connect this abroad.
#5 - Universal or Specific Travel Adapter
You can of course choose a travel adapter that specifically fits the Swiss Type J plugs, and then you can only use the adapter in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
These adapters are cheap and simple to use, as there is only one plug type that can be connected, but you are also bound to needing a new adapter if your next vacation goes to Greece or some other country.
Universal travel adapters for Switzerland are a type of travel adapter that can convert the plug to several different types of plugs, allowing you to use this in several different countries.
The advantage of a universal travel adapter is that you can get by with a single travel adapter, even if you travel to several different destinations.
The universal travel adapter might be slightly more expensive than the specific adapter, but if you compare the price with having to buy different adapters for 4 different countries, it often pays off better to get a universal adapter.
Is a Travel Adapter Necessary in Switzerland?
You can easily go to Switzerland without a travel adapter, especially if you are staying in larger hotels.
Many of the larger hotels have already replaced their sockets with Type C sockets, which you can easily connect your Danish electronics to.
But if you are going to stay privately or in smaller hotels located outside the major tourist areas, a travel adapter for Switzerland can be good to have lying in your bag.
