Practical and stylish wall clocks for the home

A wall clock can both be practical, but also an artistic addition that can make an empty wall more stylish.

The wall clock can be found in most Danish homes, as it is a large part of the Danes' interior and general design, which we are so known for in the world.

At avXperten, we have a long range of products for your home, such as soda makers, candy floss machines, timers and gas alarms.

5 things to consider before buying a wall clock

When you need to choose a wall clock, there are a couple of considerations that need to be addressed to find the wall clock that will fit your home best.

Below are 5 points you can take into account to find the wall clock that suits you best.

#1 Analog or digital

Not everyone can read the analog clock, as the digital version is becoming more and more widespread, in connection with the digital development.

The younger generation will grow up with the digital, as they are used to seeing on their smartphones and tablets.

Therefore, it may be important to consider whether it should be an analog wall clock or digital, to ensure that the younger generation will also be able to tell the time.

With the digital wall clock, you get more freedom regarding form and design, as it does not require so much space and can therefore be made in many different shapes.

The analog will almost always be round, as it follows the hours, which most of us are used to now.

The digital wall clock shows exactly what time it is and is easier for some people to understand as you do not have to see where the hands point before you can tell the time.

Whether it should be analog or digital is of course a matter of taste, there are certainly some who are more used to the analog than the digital and vice versa.

Here, the design can be decisive, as many choose analog because of its round and full design, which looks good on an empty wall.

#2 Design

A wall clock does not just have to be practical. It can easily hang on a wall as a piece of art to give the wall something stylish.

It can be found in many different colors and shapes and is usually a good addition to the home design.

Design has always been important in Danish homes, and it probably does not come as a surprise that Danish design is something that foreign countries have also noticed.

Therefore, it matters that a wall clock should not just be able to tell the time, but also add something to the home's interior.

When talking about the design, it often involves the clock's numbers, hands, or shape. These are the three things that most people choose from if it should be stylish.

The numbers on the clock face can be a decisive factor for the clock's design and functionality. The clock faces can have different numbers such as:

  • Normal numbers (1-2-3-4-5)
  • Roman numerals (I-II-III-IV-V)
  • Lines (as shown in the pictures above)
  • No numbers (as shown in the picture above)

#3 Placement of the wall clock

The placement of the wall clock can have a significant meaning in the home. Not just for the home’s interior, but also for the clock's functionality.

Therefore, it requires a bit of consideration to find the best placement in the home where the wall clock looks great, but is also easy to find if you need to keep an eye on the time.

It should ideally be as central in the home as possible, so you can quickly access it.

It should also be placed high up, so it is easy to see and that there are no objects blocking it.

#4 Avoid being late or early with a radio-controlled wall clock

With a radio-controlled wall clock, you avoid having to take the clock down to set the time when you reach that point in the year.

Therefore, you can rely on that your wall clock is always updated with the seasons so you do not have to worry about the time being set forward or backward.

More and more digital devices are now taking care of setting the time when required, so therefore it is almost only non-radio-controlled clocks that need to be adjusted.

By buying a radio-controlled wall clock, you almost entirely eliminate the need to take the clock down from the wall, unless it is a mechanical clock.

#5 Mechanical or quartz technology in wall clocks

The last point to consider is the technology of the wall clock. Here, we are talking about mechanical wall clocks and wall clocks with quartz technology.

  • Mechanical clocks are the most traditional clocks and run without batteries. Instead, they are controlled by a series of gears behind the clock face, from which the ticking sound comes.
  • Quartz clocks are powered by electricity from batteries and therefore do not have gears behind the clock face to move the clock.

The name quartz comes from the quartz crystal that is in these clocks.

The clock is driven by electrical vibrations in the small crystal and has therefore been named quartz after the quartz crystal.

Quartz clocks are the most accurate in terms of time, but they also require that there is always a battery in them before they work.

Most clocks today are with quartz technology, as they are cheaper and tend to be quieter than mechanical clocks.
