Large selection of wires and cables for all needs

At avXperten, we have a large selection of various wires and cables, so you can find exactly the cables and wires that you need.

If you have some old plugs lying around that you would like to use again, you can get a new and fresh wire from us, which you can use to make a new extension cord.

This way, you can be more certain that all your electrical installations and devices can reach their outlets.

In this case, it can be important to know the difference between cables and wires, as there is a significant difference between the two terms.

The difference between wires and cables is that with a wire, you typically have either a solid piece of copper running through it or several copper strands bundled under the insulation.

Cables are where you have multiple sets of wires, where each wire is insulated separately.

However, the Danish language often mixes the two terms together, so it is important that you pay attention to whether you are buying a wire or a cable, so that you are sure to take the right type home.

With the right wire or cable, you have the opportunity to customize your plugs and cables just the way you want, so that you always have access to a good and solid power supply.

4 things you should consider when buying wires

If you need extra wires for your electrical installations, it can be important that you make some considerations, so you can be sure to get the right wires home.

Below, we provide you with a couple of examples of considerations you can use, so you are better positioned to assess which wires and cables best fit your needs.

#1 - What do you need the wires for?

The first thing you should consider is what you actually need the wires for, as it can affect what type of wire you need.

If you are building new or renovating your old home, you will need a lot of installation cables that need to be pulled around to ensure you can install enough outlets in the home.

There, you may quickly find that you need very long lengths of installation cable, so you should also consider how long a cable you would like to have.

If you have some old loose plugs lying around, it may be that you would like to have some fresh cables, so you can get some new extension cords for use either indoors or outdoors.

This way, you can be sure that you can reach a socket with all your electronic devices, regardless of where you are in the home.

If you want to make a wire with a three-plug, it is important that you also buy the corresponding type of wire, as you need to be sure to have both live and neutral phases, as well as the ground connection.

You should therefore consider what you want to use the new wires and cables for, so you can be sure to buy the right types to take home.

#2 - Types of wires and cables

There is a wide selection of different wires and cables that you can get loose.

It can therefore be important to know the difference so you can better consider which type of cable and wire best fits your purposes.

Installation cables are a very common type of loose cables that you can find on the market, where they are used in all forms of constructions and renovations, where you need to pull new cables to outlets and electrical installations.

They are good for being embedded in the wall, giving you the opportunity to pull your plugs very discreetly, or being buried if you need to pull power out to garden installations.

You can also get stronger installation cables that are armored, making them extra protected against, for example, excavation work or if you have them installed in the garage, against damage from machines and tools.

If you do not need cables, you can also get regular wires, so you can, for example, repair your existing wires if you happen to cut them.

If you need to install a new HPFI relay, you can also get loop wires that fit it.

Loop wires are used in the HPFI relay and connect the circuit group with the power supply, so you are better protected against potential short circuits that may occur in the home.

There are countless different types of wires and cables on the market, so you should carefully investigate what the different types do, so you can be sure to get the right wires and cables for your electrical installations.

#3 - Length of the wires

You should also consider how long your wire should be, so you can get the best possible use out of it.

There are many different lengths of wires and cables, depending on what type of wire or cable you need.

For example, if you need installation cables, you often need very long lengths of them, as they need to be able to be run throughout the home or building.

You can therefore get installation cables in very long lengths, ensuring that you have enough to pull the plugs you may need.

Examples of lengths you can find for installation cables:

  • 50m
  • 100m
  • 400m
  • 500m

It can be advantageous to buy wires that are longer than you need, so you can be sure that they can reach the installations and electronic devices they need to.

There is also no disadvantage to cutting the wire shorter, so with a longer wire, you have greater flexibility in choosing how long the wire should be.

You can then also keep the excess piece of wire lying in the garage, so you always have an extra wire available if you need it.

#4 - Color of Wires

If you buy individual wires, it is a good idea to consider what colors they should have, as the color choice helps determine which phase they should be used for in the installations.

This is a legal requirement, so you should carefully consider which wires you connect.

The brown wire is used to signal that it is the phase conductor, also called the live phase, which you need for your electrical installations.

If you are installing the wire in, for example, a lamp, the space for the phase conductor will often be marked with an “L” or “P”, but you may also find that there is no marking.

The blue wire signals that it is the neutral conductor, and it is marked with either an “N” or “0”.

The last green and yellow wire is intended for the ground connection, which helps protect the electrical network against potential short circuits that may occur.

The reason for color marking in this way is to make it easier for you to recognize what the different wires do, so that you do not accidentally connect a neutral wire to the phase socket, which could cause a potential short circuit.

So if you buy separate wires for your electrical installations, make sure you get them in the right color, so you comply with the applicable regulations.
