Counterfeit detector for checking banknotes
Here on the page, you will find a selection of counterfeit detectors that can help you detect fake banknotes.
Counterfeit detectors come in various models that have different features, for example:
- the number of banknotes
- currency variants
- methods of operation
Here on the page, you will find both advanced and less advanced counterfeit detectors.
6 things to know when looking for a counterfeit detector
There are some things you should be aware of when trying to find the right counterfeit detector for your needs.
Below you will find 6 important factors to consider regarding solutions for detecting fake banknotes.
#1 - The number of banknotes
It is important to consider the number of banknotes that the detector should be able to handle, and this can obviously vary greatly, depending on how many banknotes you typically receive.
Most machines only scan one banknote at a time, but some allow you to place a bundle in, and it will gradually take the banknotes one by one.
If you often receive bundles of banknotes, it can be helpful if you can place the entire bundle in the detector, and it will then take one banknote at a time.
On the other hand, if you only receive individual banknotes, you might manage with a detector that can only handle one banknote at a time.
#2 - Other currencies
If you receive banknotes in a currency other than the Danish krone, make sure to get a counterfeit detector that can scan foreign currency, such as:
- Euro
- British Pounds
- Swiss Francs
- Norwegian Kroner
- Swedish Kroner
- Polish Zloty
Some machines can check all currencies, while others can check from 1 to 10 currencies.
It often depends on the method of operation, as not all currencies have the same features on the banknotes.
#3 - Method of operation
There are several different ways used to identify a fake banknote, including some machines that only scan with infrared light, which reveals the infrared marks on some banknotes; others scan for up to 7 different parameters, and some only for one parameter.
What you should choose depends a lot on your needs, because if you need a higher security to ensure that the banknotes you receive are not fake, you could benefit from choosing a detector that scans for multiple parameters.
You may have seen that a special pen is used in supermarkets to draw a line on the banknote to see if it is fake.
This pen only uses one parameter but is still effective and suitable if you only receive banknotes on a very small scale.
If you receive multiple banknotes, you can choose the infrared solution, which checks for the infrared mark in the banknote, which is effective and quick.
#4 - Scanning parameters
The various counterfeit detectors measure different parameters; some only look at the surface of the banknote while others scan for many other parameters.
Some of the most commonly used parameters include:
- Infrared marks
- Magnetic zones
- Metal thread
- Watermark
- Size
- Thickness
- Colors
The more parameters that need to be checked, the fewer options you will get in currency choices.
As the currency in different countries is produced with often a very large variation in security measures, it may be impossible to check all factors for all currencies.
#5 - Speed of detection
If it is important for you to receive answers very quickly, you should pay attention to the scanning speed of the different models.
Some detectors give you results in 2 seconds, while others may take up to 1 second.
The speed often relates to the number of parameters that the machine checks, meaning that a detector that only measures one parameter can be a bit faster than a machine that checks 7 parameters.
#6 - Checking other devices
Some counterfeit detectors can check the authenticity of other devices, such as:
- Credit cards
- Passports
- ID cards
If you sometimes need to check something other than banknotes, it may be necessary to look into options for checking the authenticity of other devices.
3 reasons why you should have a counterfeit detector
If you only ever receive banknotes from the supermarket, the ATM, or similar, you probably don’t need a counterfeit detector.
However, if you have a kiosk or store, or you are a vendor at large flea markets, you likely often encounter the need to accept cash in the form of banknotes.
Therefore, below are some reasons why you should consider getting a counterfeit detector.
#1 - Passing on counterfeit banknotes
It is your responsibility not to pass on counterfeit banknotes, and that means you might unintentionally end up passing on a fake banknote because you did not know it was fake.
But it is still your responsibility.
You can therefore benefit from finding a counterfeit detector that you can use to check all the banknotes you receive.
In this way, you can protect yourself from receiving fake money in your cash register and risk passing these on to unsuspecting customers.
#2 - Security
When a fake banknote hits the bank's counting system, the system very quickly detects that this banknote is fake, rendering the note worthless.
By checking the banknotes you receive, you can ensure that you do not send fake notes back to the bank and thus lose some of your revenue because the fake banknotes are not counted in the amount you deposit in the bank.
For example, if you receive a 1000 kr. banknote for an item you sold, you would expect your profit to be 1000 kr., and then you go to the bank with the money.
In the bank, you are informed that the banknote is fake and cannot be used.
This effectively means that you have given away an item worth 1000 kr. completely for free.
The counterfeit detector can increase your security to prevent this from happening.
#3 - Markets
If you frequently deal with used items, either privately or at markets, cash is often used, making it a good idea to check the banknotes you receive in exchange for goods for authenticity.
There is a lot of cash exchanged at a market, for example, and for that reason, some fake bills may quickly come into circulation, and when transactions are happening around you, it is unlikely you will take the time to look closely at the banknotes.
In such a case, a detector can be the solution.
