Data Jack for Cat5e and Cat6 - Huge selection of data jacks
If you have run network cables around the house, you probably also need to install a data jack so you can connect your computer, printer, NAS, or other equipment to your modem or router. Although most equipment today is, or can be made, wireless, a wired connection is always more secure and offers both faster and more stable connection than what you can achieve with a wireless connection. Data jacks for Cat5e and Cat6 cables can be found with both one and two outlets, with or without a cover that can close off the actual plugs, so you can easily connect multiple computers, a network printer, a NAS, or something completely different.
Installation of Data Jack
A network outlet can be installed on the wall, but it is also possible to install it elsewhere, such as under a shelf, a stair step, on the side of a cabinet, under a desk, etc. The socket can be disassembled, so the back plate can be mounted on a solid surface, after which the network cable is installed in the jack with an LSA tool, which is designed to handle that type of cables. The LSA tool is used to push the cables into place and cut them at the same time, after you have placed them in the socket where they belong. There is usually a color-coded guide at the bottom of the jack, so you know exactly which color cable to install in which part of the socket. First, you need to strip the twisted cables under the cap and then separate them, so the four colors can be placed in their respective parts of the jack, after which the cables are pressed into place individually and cut with the LSA tool. Ensure that the cap on the cable sits as close to the entry of the jack as possible, so you do not expose the inner cables to external noise. Once the cable is installed in the jack, it is placed in the cover, and the cover is either clicked into place or screwed tight.
Internet Outlets with Angled, Downward, Slanting, and Straight Plugs
You can get internet outlets with both angled, downward-facing, slanting, and straight plugs. This means that the cables either stick out from the bottom of the jack, are angled downward from the jack, have a slanting entry, or stick straight out from the jack. The best choice will often be the angled ones, as they are easier to access than those that point straight down. Of course, it always depends on your needs. At the same time, an angled plug prevents the cable from sticking straight out into the air and is thus more vulnerable to being bumped into or snagged. Additionally, the jack, when not in use, is better protected against dirt and dust when angled downward. The slanting plugs can likewise be space-saving and hide the network plug more effectively. Data jacks are available for both shielded and unshielded cables. Data jacks for the shielded cables are slightly larger than the unshielded ones, as the shielded cables take up a bit more space than the unshielded ones. The downward-facing plugs naturally take up less space than the angled ones but are more troublesome to access if you need to remove the network cable or insert a cable into the jack. The angled ones provide better access while also protecting both plug and cable against bumps and the chance of snagging on a cable that sticks straight out into the air. On some LAN outlets, each jack has a small flap that can close when the jack is not in use. This protects the jack against dust and dirt, which can affect the contact surfaces in the socket itself, thus making the connection unreliable. This type of LAN outlet is suitable for use in areas where there is a lot of dust, such as in a workshop or a basement.
