In the following, you will find a lot of informative text about hard disk enclosures. Among other things, you will be able to read more about what such an enclosure can be used for. Additionally, you can read more about the various connectivity options.
What is a hard disk enclosure?
Many have probably experienced having a computer where some of the hardware equipment has failed. If the hard disk is one of the things that has survived, it would be obvious to invest in a hard disk enclosure. In that way, you can again access all the important data that may be stored on the hard disk.
However, there are also many who keep their hard disks from retired computers and invest in a hard disk enclosure with the aim of using the hard disk from the retired computer to store backup data on a new computer.
Good… So far so good. With a hard disk enclosure, you can thus "build" your own external hard disk. It is an extremely easy building project, so even if you are not a big tech expert, you will certainly be able to use a hard disk and a hard disk enclosure without any problems with a little guidance.
If you do not own an extra hard disk, and therefore cannot benefit from a hard disk enclosure, this does not mean that an external hard disk for your computer is out of the question. You can easily purchase dedicated external hard disks.

You need a hard disk enclosure that fits your hard disk
It is by no means unimportant which hard disk enclosure you choose to buy. It must indeed fit size-wise to your hard disk.
With us, you will find hard disk enclosures in sizes 2.5" and 3.5". If your hard disk is about 10 cm x 7 cm, you need a 2.5" enclosure, while a 3.5" hard disk is about 15 cm x 10 cm.
In addition to 2.5" and 3.5" hard disk enclosures, there are also hard disk enclosures of the type m.2. These are used for some specific SSD hard disks, which are found in some of the newer and smaller laptops.
There are two standard connections
When you need to connect your hard disk to a hard disk enclosure, there are two standard connections, namely IDE and SATA. SATA is today the most common and most likely the one you need to use. However, if your hard disk is very old, there is a chance that you will need to use the IDE connection option.
Do you need USB cables for the connection?
Our hard disk enclosures connect more or less all to the computer via USB.
Do be aware that some of the enclosures use USB C while others use USB A.
If you do not know the difference between these two types of connectors, you can read more about it on our main page with USB cables.
