Meat Grinder for the Kitchen

If you prepare many of the traditional Danish dishes at home, a meat grinder can be a great help in the kitchen.

Dishes like meatballs, hamburger patties, and medister sausages are something we eat a lot of throughout the year.

With a meat grinder at home, you can decide how fine or coarse the meat should be minced. The consistency of the minced meat can be crucial for the quality of the dish.

At avXperten, we have many different kitchen tools, such as: yogurt machine, chocolate fountain, and toaster.

6 Things to Consider Before Buying a Meat Grinder

Before going out and investing in a meat grinder, there are some things to consider, as there are many different meat grinders available.

A meat grinder is a kitchen tool that can be used for much more than just making minced meat. Below you will see what else the meat grinder can be used to make.

Additionally, there are some points that should be taken into consideration to arrive at the meat grinder that best suits one's needs.

#1 The Included Parts of the Meat Grinder

Before going out and buying a meat grinder, it is important to think about what you actually want to make with it.

When investing in a meat grinder, you usually get some accessories so you can make a variety of things in different sizes.

Exactly which parts you receive can vary depending on which manufacturer the meat grinder is from.

If you want to make homemade sausages, it is important that a "sausage horn" is included. The sausage horn is an elongated tube that you place in the mouth of the meat grinder, where the meat is pressed out.

If you want to make minced meat, you should pay attention to the sizes of the screens. The size determines how thick the meat strips become when pressed out.

With various screens, you can figure out which size suits your needs best. There are no rules for which size it should be if it’s for hamburger patties.

#2 The Purpose of the Meat Grinder

Many traditional Danish dishes contain something that is most likely made in a meat grinder.

The meat grinder has been a significant part of the Danish kitchen for many years, being a loyal kitchen tool over the years and is still used today.

Here are some dishes that you can use the meat grinder to make:

  • Minced beef for various dishes
  • Mixture for meatballs
  • Medister sausages and other sausages
  • Liver pate and paté
  • Falafel
  • Cake batter for cookies, etc.

#3 The Efficiency of the Meat Grinder Measured in Watts

The watt consumption of the meat grinder reflects its ability to grind the meat. The more watts the meat grinder uses, the more efficient it is.

We have meat grinders ranging from 400 watts to 1800 watts, so there is definitely a meat grinder that suits your needs.

If you have a meat grinder over 1000 watts, you can expect it to grind most meat chunks, regardless of the size of the chunk.

A meat grinder at 1800 watts can approximately grind 1.8 kg of meat in one minute.

#4 Number of Gears in the Meat Grinder

Most meat grinders come with a minimum of 2 gears. A forward gear and a reverse gear.

The forward gear is used when the meat is ground from meat chunks to the minced meat we know.

The reverse gear is used if something gets stuck in the grinder. The reverse gear makes the grinder go backward, allowing anything causing the blockage to come out of the funnel again.

Meat grinders with 2 gears are the industry standard, so you shouldn’t fear buying a meat grinder without a forward and reverse gear.

There are also meat grinders with more than 2 gears, but these are typically much larger meat grinders used at butcher shops.

#5 Old-fashioned Meat Grinder or Electric Meat Grinder

The old-fashioned meat grinder was invented back in 1860 and quickly became the favorite kitchen tool of the Danes.

It was the meat grinder that made Danes transition from salted fish and meat to fresher meat. Therefore, the meat grinder was a revolutionary kitchen tool for us Danes.

The old-fashioned meat grinder consists of a handle either on the side or at the back of the grinder and is operated by hand power.

With an old-fashioned meat grinder, it is important that the meat chunks are not too large, or it can be difficult for you and the meat grinder to grind the meat chunk.

The electric meat grinder is faster and more efficient at grinding meat and can also handle larger meat chunks.

However, the electric meat grinder is noisier than the old-fashioned meat grinder, which is why some still prefer the old meat grinder.

#6 The Stability of the Meat Grinder

When using a meat grinder, it is important that it is solidly planted on a stable surface, as it may slip due to the considerable force it uses to grind the meat.

Therefore, it is important to ensure that the meat grinder has some non-slip feet. The meat grinder is a heavy kitchen tool, which should preferably stand on a solid surface during use.

Most of our meat grinders have non-slip feet, so you shouldn’t worry about the meat grinder slipping when you are using it.
