Remote Controlled Car - Fun and Speed for All Ages
If you have ever owned a remote controlled car, you might remember the excitement and joy of driving it.
It’s been a long time since remote controlled cars were only for kids, and today you can find remote controlled cars for both kids and adults.
When you’re looking for a remote controlled car, there are many options, both in the size of the car, but also in power, technology, and not least price.
Many younger children have a remote controlled car on their wish list, and there is also a lot of fun and action in a remote controlled car, so it’s not surprising that both children and adults wish for remote controlled cars for birthdays and Christmas.
However, it can be difficult to determine which model, size, design, or use the remote controlled car should belong to, and there are also several factors that can help narrow the selection down a bit.
Below you will find more information that we have gathered, to help you find the remote controlled car that you or your children can enjoy for many years.
5 Things You Should Consider Before Buying a Remote Controlled Car
There are many different models of remote controlled cars on the market, and it can therefore seem a bit overwhelming.
There is indeed a long list of models that are intended for specific age groups, so if you’re not quite sure what to look for, read below where we have collected more information about what considerations you can make before buying a remote controlled car.
#1 - Remote Controlled Car for Specific Age Groups
With the many different remote controlled cars on the market and the great interest from both children and adults, it’s not surprising that there are slight differences in which remote controlled car you should buy for a child and an adult.
If you are looking for a car for a younger child, there is often no need for the car to drive very fast, but it is more important that the car can withstand children’s sometimes a bit wild handling without breaking.
For adults, remote controlled cars are often associated with speed, tricks, or other action-packed activities, and therefore the cars are often more advanced in both construction and operation.
There are also remote controlled cars that are very well suited for slightly larger children who want to do tricks in the garden and not just use the cars indoors on the living room floor, and this also places demands on the remote controlled car.
You should therefore first consider who will use the remote controlled car and how old this person is, as this will provide you with a good starting point for your choice.
Some remote controlled cars are more toys, which is evident in the design and speed of the cars, and especially for the youngest users, you may also find remote controlled cars that have a cable to the remote.
Most people associate a remote controlled car with a wireless remote control that can communicate with the car.
#2 - Speed for a Remote Controlled Car
When you choose a remote controlled car, you can advantageously consider how high a speed the car should be able to drive, and this can be determined by what the car will be used for or what age the car should be suitable for.
If a remote controlled car will primarily be used by younger children, it may be easier for them to operate a car with a slightly lower top speed, for example, between 12 and 15 km/h or lower.
Young children often use the remote controlled car indoors, and therefore high speeds are not easy to achieve, which is why a lower speed is often desired.
Older children often want to take the car outside, where it can drive really fast, and here a remote controlled car with a maximum speed of up to 30 km/h can be really nice.
If it needs to go really fast and cater to advanced users, there are remote controlled cars with speeds of up to 100 km/h, but these are only for use on specially adapted tracks.
The faster the car needs to drive, the more difficult it also becomes to control because even small adjustments can make the car react violently; furthermore, the so-called action, that is, the way the car is controlled, is often significantly more advanced and prolonged.
#3 - Design of Remote Controlled Cars
There are many different designs of remote controlled cars, and while some are designed to tumble around, others are made to drive fast or to drive on terrain.
A remote controlled car doesn’t always literally look like a car but can also be an excavator, a crane, or a truck, and especially the models for younger children are often either designed as a machine they might have encountered in real life or as a character they have seen in cartoons and animated films, for example, McQueen from Cars or Minnie Mouse’s car.
Remote controlled cars for tricks or tumbling are often flatter, so the wheels are larger than the cockpit itself, and these can withstand tumbling around, landing on their heads, or jumping very high without getting damaged.
Remote controlled trucks or remote controlled off-road cars are built more like the monster trucks that you might occasionally see in real life, and there is a good distance to the ground, making the car more off-road capable and not getting stuck on uneven surfaces.
Remote controlled racing cars and remote controlled drift cars are often designed to look like streetcars or racing cars, with a higher rear wing and more downforce, which means they can drive quite fast.
#4 - Where Will the Remote Controlled Car Be Used?
You can, keeping point 3 in mind, consider where the car will be used; not all remote controlled cars can withstand being used on the lawn in the garden, in the sand at the playground, or on the beach.
It’s therefore quite essential to get a remote controlled car that can withstand the surface you expect it to be used on, so that sand doesn’t get into the electronics, or grass doesn’t get stuck around the wheels.
Although a remote controlled car has some quite coarse patterned tires, it does not necessarily mean that you can use it anywhere; therefore, it is recommended that you check the specifications or the manual for guidance on use.
You should also be aware of whether the car is waterproof, particularly if you want to be able to use it in all kinds of weather.
A remote controlled car, regardless of the model or water protection, can seldom withstand being submerged in water, but a car that is water-protected can often handle being used on a wet road or in rain.
#5 - The Quality of a Remote Controlled Car
The quality can vary greatly among different models of remote controlled cars, but a good rule of thumb is that you should align your expectations with the price you are willing to pay for a remote controlled car.
Price and quality are very closely linked in this market, and you can often see and feel the difference in the quality of the plastic that makes up the driver’s cabin of the car, and at the same time, you can often find spare parts for the more expensive cars, which is an indication of a high-end car.
There’s no reason to buy the most expensive model from the start because it takes time to get good at driving the car, no matter the model, and more expensive models are often more advanced.
If the remote controlled car is to be used for smaller children or young beginners, it is advisable to go for a more robust and sturdily constructed model that can withstand a bit of everything, but that is not necessarily extremely advanced.
