Smoke Detectors in Homes Save Lives

No home without smoke detectors! Some have stated that it should be mandatory to have smoke detectors installed in all Danish homes – and that might also be a good idea.

Smoke detectors can save lives and have already done so in many cases.

If you also want to ensure your own safety and your family's in the event of a fire, you should install smoke detectors in your home.

Of course, smoke detectors cannot prevent a fire from starting, but they can warn you and your family, so you can escape to safety if an accident occurs.

The smoke detectors in our large selection are so affordable that there are no excuses for not securing your home.

For a modest amount and a battery change every few years, you are guaranteed that a high-pitched alarm will wake you and your family at the first hint of smoke or high heat.

The alarm tone is so loud that everyone is guaranteed to wake up – ensuring that all living beings in the home have the opportunity to get out before catastrophic consequences such as smoke poisoning and fire damage occur.

Smoke Detectors – Many Models at Affordable Prices

In our large selection of smoke detectors, you can find both optical and thermal smoke detectors – as well as models that “cooperate” in such a way that one activates the other if an accident occurs.

Optical Smoke Detector

Optical smoke detectors work by sending optical signals into the room. These signals can detect smoke even before it reaches the alarm itself.

This ensures that you are alerted as quickly as possible – allowing you to react before you are in serious danger.

Thermal Smoke Detector

Thermal smoke detectors do not react to smoke or gas, but solely to an increase in temperature.

This may seem illogical at first, but it is actually a very practical solution in many cases.

Thermal smoke detectors are for example a good solution for the kitchen, where cooking fumes and smoke from ovens can trigger the alarm – even when there is no danger present.

In the boiler room or workshop, a thermal smoke detector may also be the right choice. Here, smoke or steam often develops that would activate an optical smoke detector – even though there is really no danger present.

Interconnected Smoke Detectors

Interconnected smoke detectors can work together.

In practice, they operate in such a way that they are wirelessly connected and warn each other.

If one smoke detector is activated, it will automatically start another smoke detector – even if it is in a completely different room.

If, for example, a faulty electrical installation in the kitchen starts a fire, the smoke detector you have installed in the bedroom will be activated simultaneously – thus alerting you faster.

That way, everyone in the household is warned, regardless of where the fire occurs in the house.

Smoke Detector Placements - IMPORTANT!

If you have a large home, it is beneficial to have many smoke detectors. In a larger villa, it would be advisable to have a smoke detector outside the boiler room, where accidents and short circuits can occur.

Smoke Detector in Kitchen

The kitchen usually also contains a lot of electrical equipment, where there can be a malfunction in both the stove, hot plates, dishwasher, and other connected electronics.

Since the kitchen can sometimes be a hectic “workplace,” it may be most sensible to have a thermal smoke detector in the kitchen itself, so it doesn’t go off every time you open a hot oven.

Smoke Detector Outside Kitchen

Conversely, it may be a good idea to have an optical smoke detector just outside the kitchen, so it can detect smoke from an early developed fire due to malfunction in electrical installations.

Smoke Detector in or Outside Bedroom

All rooms that serve as sleeping quarters should obviously have a smoke detector, but hallways and corridors are also obvious places where a smoke detector can be installed.

This increases the chances that everyone hears the warning signals as quickly as possible.

Here, interconnected smoke detectors would be an ideal solution so that the smoke detectors in the bedrooms are activated simultaneously.

Placement of Smoke Detector in Apartment

If you live in an apartment complex, there is a place where a smoke detector should definitely be installed.

On the wall or ceiling just inside your entrance door, it is of utmost necessity that you install a smoke detector.

This can effectively and quickly warn you if there is smoke in the hallway, which would occur if a fire starts in your downstairs neighbor, upstairs neighbor, or neighbor.

This also gives you the opportunity to warn the other residents in the building, should they not have secured themselves with smoke detectors.

Are Smoke Detectors Mandatory?

The rules for smoke detectors are actually very simple.

In all new constructions must smoke detectors be installed in all important locations.

Buildings from before this rule was adopted in 2004 are not required to have smoke detectors.

Although buildings built before 2004 are not required to have them, most choose wisely to install smoke detectors in their homes.

In almost all homes where people stay, it is rare to see that smoke detectors are not a permanent part of the home’s structure.

The places where smoke detectors are used less often are areas such as barns, sheds, garages, etc.

It is however always wise to have smoke detectors everywhere on your property, as fires can start anywhere given the right conditions.

Smoke Detectors Provide Increased Safety in the Home

Almost all of our smoke detectors give off a warning signal that is at least 85 dB (decibels) – and that is very loud.

Most use a 9V battery that lasts for many years.

In our large selection, you will also find smoke detectors with lithium batteries that ensure 10 years of operation.

How often the battery should be replaced is indicated in the instructions for the various models, and the manual also specifies how often you should “test” the alarm.

Warning Indicated When Battery Needs Replacement

The smoke detectors in our selection also emit an alarm when the battery needs to be replaced, which occurs in most models with weak beeping sounds.

It is a good idea to make it a routine to check all smoke detectors, for instance at a set time each week – see more in the manuals regarding periodic testing and adjust your routines according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Make Your Home and Family Members Safe with Smoke Detectors

Whether or not to have smoke detectors in your home is of course your own choice, but it is a choice that you should say yes to.

If the worst possible accident occurs, smoke detectors can mean the difference between life and death.

Smoke detectors alert you with a loud sound – long before you can see the smoke, allowing you and your family to get to safety.

At avXperten.dk you will find good and affordable smoke detectors, both optical, thermal, and interconnected models, so there are plenty of opportunities to find the solutions that best fit your home and family.

We also have other smart devices for increased safety, such as smart surveillance cameras.
