The Story of Synology

Synology is a Taiwanese company that specializes in data storage security on computers and servers.

The company was founded in 2000 by two former employees from Microsoft, who had left their jobs at Microsoft to start the company.

In 2004, Synology launched their first complete solution for secure data storage on servers and computers, called the “DiscStation DS-101.

In 2005, the first SATA-based NAS (network-attached storage) was launched, alongside the further development of the DS-101 which was also released as DS-101G.

Since 2005, Synology has made strong progress with the launch of several new security solutions and the opening of new productions and offices in various locations around the world, including England, Germany, and France.

The latest product is a cloud-based service for secure data storage, file sharing, and backups to the cloud.

Synology - Known for Security

Synology is known for producing both hardware and software designed to store data very securely.

The company's products are regularly updated, and in a market with strong competition, Synology remains one of the most secure methods for data storage and data security.

The company offers a wide range of features and continuously scans your files, notifying you if it finds anything suspicious and helping to remove ransomware and other attacks on your files and data.

Synology is known for their NAS devices, which are storage units that connect one or more computers via your home network; here your data is well protected behind Synology software, which protects against attacks from, for example, Ransomware.

Synology also offers other products and has devices for both individuals and businesses, examples of products include:

  • Surveillance
  • Surveillance video
  • Surveillance Control
  • Network Security
  • Hard Disk
  • Cloud Solutions

Synology is also known for their collaboration with various hacker groups, which the company uses to test the security of their products.

The hackers attempt to hack into the data storage and challenge the software that protects the storage devices.

In this way, Synology ensures that the products are as secure as possible, and with the help of the hackers, any security gaps can be quickly identified and fixed.

In Denmark, Synology is known for their network solutions, meaning that with a router and some software, you can easily set up a secure and safe network.

5 Reasons to Choose Synology

If security alone isn't enough for you to choose Synology, here are a few more reasons why you should consider Synology products.

#1 - Security as Primary Focus

Synology offers security as their product, and therefore, it is also natural that this is their primary focus.

If you work with a computer, you almost certainly have a lot of sensitive data, such as:

  • Browser data
  • Text documents
  • Personal information
  • Online banking
  • Passwords
  • Images
  • Videos
  • And much more

These data are sensitive and there are many individuals in the world who only work to misuse this data, either through extortion or forgery, etc.

Therefore, the security around this data is very important, and this is where Synology excels, as they offer solutions that not only store your data but also protect it against hacker attacks and ransomware.

You must not believe that just because you have antivirus software on your PC, your data is secure; such a program does not protect against hacker attacks, and often security updates are long overdue.

Synology continually tests their security systems with the help of hackers, who do everything they can to find vulnerabilities in the security.

In fact, hackers are rewarded when they manage to breach the security system.

This means that the security is always top-notch and new updates are sent out regularly.

#2 - High Quality

Synology often offers long-term warranties on the company’s hardware products, and they can do this because the products are made from quality materials.

The materials are robust and stable, which means the products have a very high quality.

The design is simple and easy to implement in an existing setup.

The mechanical quality is also top-notch, making it easy to install hard drives, and furthermore, the noise level from the hardware is very low.

Even the speed of the hardware is high, and even with large files, it performs so well that you seldom need to wait.

#3 - Easy Setup and User-Friendliness

Even for someone who is not very used to working with computers and setups, the setup of both hardware and software seems easy and user-friendly.

Synology has a large selection of video guides and a support team that is always ready to help, plus there is a detailed guide included for both the installation of new components and the setup of the relevant component.

The software is user-friendly and intuitive, making it feel easy to set up the management of your new security product.

If the security software finds challenges in your files or elsewhere, you receive a notification that guides you through resolving the issue.

So all in all, it is easy to set up and use products from Synology.

#4 - For Individuals and Businesses

Whether you need Synology for your personal network of computers or for a business solution, Synology offers solutions specifically tailored to your needs.

A business typically requires greater security, has multiple computers on the network, and may share more files than you as an individual need.

Therefore, the solutions are scaled according to what the security solution is intended for.

Synology has made it easy to find the right solution, whether it is for personal or business use, with their setup on their website.

Here, you are guided through some questions, and based on your answers and needs, suggestions for solutions appear based on your responses.

This makes it easy to find the right solution in relation to both hardware and software.

#5 - Many Years of Experience and Development

Synology has many years of experience in developing the most secure data storage solutions for both individuals and businesses.

For over 20 years, the company has developed the security of their products and made it easier to meet the increasing demands for secure data storage.

The two founders of the company did not start the business completely without experience, as they both worked at Microsoft, one as the Development Manager for the Microsoft Exchange Server Group and the other as Sales Director for Microsoft in Taiwan.

Their knowledge of computer development from Microsoft has contributed to Synology's success and ability to maintain a consistently high level of security.

At the same time, Synology has understood that you cannot build the safest system without having it tested by real people who know how to find vulnerabilities in security, such as hackers.
