Filament Bulbs - smart and cozy lighting

Here on the page you will find our selection of filament bulbs, which are both smart to look at and provide a cozy and atmospheric lighting.

Filament bulbs are bulbs where you can clearly see the filaments inside the bulb, and even LED bulbs can look as if they have filaments.

Many filament bulbs today are LED bulbs, but the design is based on the old-fashioned incandescent bulbs, and the bulbs can be recognized by having clear glass and visible filaments in various shapes.

Filament bulbs are very decorative and can easily be used as a simple bulb in a light fixture, without a lampshade.

The bulb itself carries the design, and is available in countless different sizes and shapes.

If you also want a cozy lighting in a beautiful design, but are unsure about which filament bulb to choose, read on below, where we provide our suggestions on what to look for when choosing a filament bulb.

5 things you should consider before buying a Filament Bulb

There are many sizes and models of filament bulbs, and it can be difficult to know what to look for when choosing a filament bulb.

Below, we have gathered our suggestions for some things you can consider before buying a filament bulb.

#1 - Type of Filament bulb

When looking for a Filament bulb, you should consider which type you would like to have, as there are 2 different types: traditional incandescent bulbs and LED filament bulbs.

The advantage of choosing an LED Filament bulb is that they are often significantly more energy-efficient than incandescent bulbs, and they often have a much longer lifespan.

An incandescent bulb, however, often provides a softer light than LED, but when it comes to a filament bulb, the light is generally very soft and pleasant.

In addition to choosing between incandescent bulbs and LED bulbs, you should also consider if you want a bulb that you can control via an app on your mobile phone, and if so, which system this bulb should be compatible with.

A lot of LED filament bulbs are so-called smart bulbs, which means they can be controlled via your WiFi and an app on your phone, where you can adjust both brightness and often also the hue of the light.

There are several different platforms for smart filament bulbs, for example:

#2 - Socket type for Filament Bulb

Another important thing to keep an eye on is the socket type of your new filament bulb, which is typically either E14 or E27, which are respectively large and small sockets.

Which socket type to look for is often determined by the fitting that the socket must fit into, as the two sizes are not compatible with each other.

So you cannot use an E14 socket with an E27 fitting, and vice versa.

The socket type has no bearing on the actual shape, size, or design of the glass, but only affects whether the bulb can achieve an electrical connection via the fitting.

#3 - Lifespan of Filament Bulb

The lifespan of filament bulbs can vary greatly from model to model, but if you choose an incandescent bulb, you will rarely exceed a lifespan of over 1000 hours, whereas with an LED bulb, you often have more than 10000 hours to work with.

When the lifespan of a filament bulb is calculated, it is stated in the number of hours the bulb is expected to last.

An indicated lifespan of, for example, 20,000 hours means that the bulb is expected to last for 20,000 hours continuously, 24 hours a day, for about 2.3 years.

Filament bulbs are often used for cozy lighting and are therefore rarely left on for 24 hours a day, but maybe only a few hours daily, which means you can have your new filament bulb for a very long time before you need to replace it.

#4 - Dimmable Filament Bulb

Many models of filament bulbs are dimmable, and here you will often be able to dim the brightness via an app on your phone if the bulb is a so-called smart bulb.

With LED bulbs, you can often adjust the brightness to get exactly the amount of brightness you want in the room.

#5 - Design of Filament Bulb

The design of filament bulbs can consist of the size and shape of the bulb or the design of the filament itself.

Filament bulbs come in very large sizes, so the size of the bulb can be that of a whole lamp, and they can also come in globe shapes, ball shapes, and candle shapes.

You may already know the candle and globe shapes from older models of incandescent and energy-saving bulbs, where the globe shape resembles a bulb in fruit, while the candle bulb is more elongated in shape.

Some bulbs have a point at the top of the bulb, making it almost look like a drop, which creates a really nice effect.

The filaments, or rather the LED filaments, inside the bulb can be twisted, coiled, and have many different decorative shapes, giving the bulb a special look when the filament bulb is turned on.
