Scart to HDMI - Convert Scart to HDMI - avXperten.dk

As technology has developed, Scart connectors have gradually been replaced by HDMI. Newer technology such as game consoles, televisions, DVD players, etc. today have either both Scart and HDMI or only HDMI, which is why the Scart connector has become more or less redundant. However, if you find yourself in a situation where, for example, you have gotten a new television that no longer has a Scart connector but are still interested in using your old game consoles, VHS player or similar, fortunately, there is a solution to the problem: a Scart to HDMI converter. A Scart to HDMI converter can indeed convert Scart to HDMI, allowing you to still use older devices with Scart connectors on your new flat-screen TV with HDMI inputs.

Here at avXperten, we have a wide selection of Scart to HDMI converters that can easily and quickly convert Scart plugs to HDMI plugs and give new life to your old Scart devices.

What is Scart?

Since the 80s, almost all AV equipment for private end-users has had one or more Scart connectors. Examples of devices with Scart connectors include VHS and DVD players, various game consoles, televisions, etc. The Scart connector makes it possible to transfer audio and video signals between several Scart devices, such as between a VHS player and a television. Precisely because Scart can contain both video/image and audio, it has been the preferred standard in Europe since the 80s when it comes to transferring image and sound.

Today, however, Scart is gradually belonging to the past as the development of technology has resulted in finding other, more effective ways to connect devices that provide higher resolution. Today, the HDMI connector is considered the preferred standard in Europe when one wishes to transfer image and sound between electronic devices.

What is HDMI?

HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface and is a cable connection used to transmit uncompressed digital audio/video signals. By using only one connector at each end, an HDMI cable can easily transport both sound and image in HD quality (High Definition) from, for example, a DVD or BluRay player to a flat-screen TV. For this reason, all newer flat-screen TVs should support either Full HD or be HD-ready, as this means the TV has an HDMI input.

HDMI is now used for everything from connecting DVD/BluRay players and game consoles to a television to connecting portable computers to a television or another screen. Many newer computers today are equipped with HDMI, allowing the user to, among other things, use multiple screens for the computer or to display content on a larger screen such as a television or projector.

The difference between Scart and HDMI

So what is the actual difference between Scart and HDMI? The short explanation is that the HDMI connector corresponds to an optimized and compressed version of the Scart connector. Unlike Scart, HDMI can transmit images and sound in a much higher quality (HD) and supports all the way up to 720p-1080p. To utilize newer televisions and other screens to their full potential, one should therefore use HDMI instead of Scart today.

How does a Scart to HDMI converter work?

A Scart to HDMI converter works by taking the image and sound from the device that is connected via a Scart connector and converting or transforming it into a true HDMI signal that can be displayed on the connected television or screen.

Most Scart to HDMI converters are easy to use, as they often do not require any settings, but rather fall under the "plug-and-play" category. This means that all you have to do is connect a Scart cable between the Scart device and the converter and then connect an HDMI cable between the converter and the screen you wish to use (for example, your flat-screen TV).

What can a Scart to HDMI converter be used for?

A Scart to HDMI converter can be used to give your old Scart devices new life by allowing you to connect them to newer screens and flat-screen TVs. Without a Scart to HDMI converter, it can today be difficult to use older game consoles, VHS players, and old DVD players from before the time of HDMI cables. Therefore, it is very smart that today you can buy a Scart to HDMI converter that makes it possible to use the old devices again, even if you have gotten a newer screen or television without a Scart connector.

Here at avXperten, you will find several different Scart to HDMI converters at a reasonable price range. All converters in our selection enable you to convert a Scart connection to an HDMI connection, so you can effortlessly play all your old favorite games or watch your old VHS tapes on your new television.

Can I use an audio/video to HDMI converter instead of a Scart to HDMI converter?

Some Scart to HDMI converters may go under the name audio/video to HDMI converter. These converters often do not have a physical Scart connector and instead have audio/video input, but can still be used for the same purpose as a Scart to HDMI converter. Here, the only major difference for you is that the image is transmitted via composite or S-video, while the sound is transmitted via 2 RCA connectors. This means that, with this type of converter, you can only convert image and sound from DVD players, game consoles, and other devices or equipment with composite or S-video output.

However, many older game consoles have audio/video connectors with a Scart connector adapter, which makes it possible to connect the device either using Scart or audio/video depending on your needs. Before you buy a Scart to HDMI converter, it is always a good idea to investigate how your old devices can or should be connected to a converter.
