Antenna Splitter - Find an antenna splitter here

An antenna splitter is also called an antenna distributor (and in some places even a TV splitter). This is a device where you can plug in one connector from your antenna, and then run a number of connectors out from the splitter to the various devices in the house that need to receive the signal from the antenna.

An antenna splitter also works if you have cable TV, and this is precisely what makes such splitters so popular. As we get more and more televisions in the house, everyone can watch what they want to see – children can watch cartoons while adults can watch movies, and with a splitter, it is possible to ensure that everyone in the household gets a clear picture and sharp sound, and that no one has to compromise on quality.

The antenna splitter can also be used if, for example, you would like to listen to the radio on the same antenna cable that carries the TV signal. This is really smart as you can manage with just one antenna cable from the antenna into the house. If you have, like many do, your antenna on the roof, you no longer have to crawl around up there every time you need to connect a new cable.

How is an antenna splitter constructed?

When we talk about these antenna splitters, there are a number of different options for you that need to distribute your signal to many different TVs in the household. Here you don't just buy one model, but instead can buy several different ones depending on your needs.

An antenna splitter works by having an "input", that is, an entry for your signal, and a number of "outputs", that is, exits through which the signal can flow. Such a splitter is not a particularly large component, and the fewer outputs you need, the smaller the unit can actually get, and it can be placed almost anywhere.

Most of these components are "HF-tight". This means that the electronic noise we find in modern homes with lots of electronic devices (both wired and wireless) is rejected as much as possible by the antenna splitter. This happens because the antenna splitter is shielded in such a way that these frequencies cannot penetrate the splitter's signal and thereby disturb it.

When this disruption can be minimized as much as it can here, it means that you do not have to worry about whether your signal actually comes in clearly and distinctly. In this way, you can avoid the noise that often plagues a home where many electronic devices communicate with each other and thereby "pollute" the air around them with noise.

What should you remember when looking for an antenna splitter?

Just because you know that you need an antenna splitter does not mean that your search is completely over yet. There are indeed a number of things that are worth keeping in mind when looking for such a device, so that you don't later find yourself in trouble.

One of the most important is the "bandwidth" that your signal splitter has. This is the term that indicates which frequency band the splitter can work with, and you might know this concept from internet routers, where they operate on a specific bandwidth, for example, 5 GHz. Most antenna splitters have a bandwidth that lies between 1000 and 1500 MHz, as this is the bandwidth that most TVs operate with. If you don't choose the right bandwidth, or if you have, for example, a very low bandwidth in your antenna splitter, you could end up experiencing a significant signal loss because the splitter cannot capture all the information from the antenna.

Another thing you also need to consider is how many outputs your antenna splitter needs to have. If you only need 4 outputs, buying a splitter that has 8 outputs would be a problematic choice. If you do this, you'll quickly see that such a splitter requires more power in the signal, and thus the antenna amplifier needs to be turned up – some don't even have such an amplifier, and therefore just experience a permanent loss in quality. If you instead choose the exact number of outputs you need from the start, you will avoid experiencing a deterioration in your signal.
