Switchgear - Find just the modules you need for your electrical panel

When you are renovating your old home, or building new, you may need to have a new electrical panel installed in the home to ensure that the electrical circuit can meet the new demands of the home.

There are a large number of different switchgear for an electrical panel, each with its own function, and depending on whether it's a regular home or a larger business, there may be a need for different switchgear than usual.

Here on the site you can get an overview of the different types of switchgear you can find with us, making it easier to find the exact products you need for your electrical panel.

This way you ensure that you get the right products, and that the products are of high quality that meets both requirements and expectations for electrical circuits.

4 product types of Switchgear you can choose from

If you are about to install a new electrical panel, it is important that you have the right switchgear available, so you can be sure that the panel will have all the functions it needs.

Therefore, it may be a good idea to consider which modules you need before you start, so you have all the materials right at hand.

Below you can find a short overview of a few selected switchgear, which you can find here on the site, giving you a better opportunity to find the right components for the electrical panel.

#1 - Switchgear - Timer

If you want the ability to control during which time periods your switches and connected devices should be able to receive power, you can do it by installing a timer in your electrical panel.

A timer can be set for specific time periods when it should turn off the power in different areas of the house according to your needs.

This allows you to ensure that all your electronic devices cannot be turned on after, for example, midnight, thus preventing any devices from being on standby and using extra power in the home.

You also have the option to turn off the lights, so you don't need to remember whether you've turned off the lights everywhere.

Depending on whether you invest in an analog or digital timer, you can set the times via an app on your mobile, or a corresponding remote control, so you don't have to go into the cabinet every time you want to make changes.

A timer allows you to change how you turn on and off your devices at home, and can therefore be a good investment for those who want more control over the home.

#2 - Switchgear - RCD

One of the most important components you can get for an electrical panel is an RCD, which helps protect the circuit in your home from potential short circuits due to overload.

Many larger electronic devices use a lot of power and will thus significantly increase the voltage in the circuit, especially if you have several connected at the same time.

This can mean that the system becomes overloaded, and can cause short circuits that can activate the fuses in the relay.

It is also in this type of relay that you can find your fuses, which you may need to change if there is an overload of the system that causes the fuse to blow.

However, some newer models use a different form of fuse that automatically disconnects when it detects large fluctuations in voltage in the circuit.

This ensures that the electronic devices around the house do not get damaged by the short circuit, as it does not become a prolonged overload, but only a temporary one with significantly less chance of causing damage.

#3 - Switchgear - Surge Protection

Another important module to have in your electrical panel is a surge protector, as it helps you avoid large short circuits and electrical fires from occurring in the home.

Surge voltage refers to a sudden and large charge of electricity that is sent through the system, most often seen if lightning strikes your circuit.

This most commonly occurs with, for example, an outdoor antenna or similar device, where there is free access to the air.

If you do not have surge protection installed, thousands of volts will be sent through the circuit in the home and overload large parts of the circuit, which can damage your electronic devices in the home and create potential fires.

To counteract this phenomenon, surge protection helps by activating as soon as it detects a high voltage in the circuit and thereby sends all excess electricity down to the ground instead of to your appliances.

This way you avoid larger accidents and potential fire hazards by having a surge protector installed in your electrical panel.

#4 - Switchgear - Energy Meter

When you need to have an electrical panel installed, you should also have an energy meter installed in it, or in a separate cabinet nearby.

An energy meter allows you to see how much electricity you are consuming, so you know approximately how much you may end up paying to the power company.

It also allows you to measure your energy consumption yourself, so if you end up paying too much compared to what your measurements indicate, you have the option to document this.

By having an energy meter, it gives you some security to know exactly what your consumption is, and potentially gives you the opportunity to make improvements that reduce your consumption in the long run.
