HDMI adapter, large selection of HDMI adapters
Here at avXperten you will find a large selection of HDMI adapters, allowing you to easily convert an HDMI connector to, for example, Mini HDMI or Micro HDMI. HDMI adapters can have many different purposes. If you already have two short HDMI cables lying around at home and need one long cable, in many cases you might be lucky to save money by purchasing an HDMI adapter from us. An HDMI adapter can indeed – among other things – be used to join two short HDMI cables, thus creating one longer HDMI cable instead of having to buy a completely new and longer HDMI cable.
What is HDMI?
HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface and is a 100% digital technology that has been the European standard for cable connections since 2003. HDMI is used to transfer uncompressed audio/video signals used in connection with High Definition TVs. Today, HDMI has gradually replaced the scart connector, which used to be the standard. HDMI is used in connection with consumer electronics such as flat-screen TVs, DVD and BluRay players, various game consoles, HDD recorders, etc. HDMI can transfer both image and sound between different devices via an HDMI cable with only one connector at each end. Not only that, but HDMI can transfer image and sound in HD quality/High Definition, which is something that most people are interested in achieving with newer flat-screen TVs and computer monitors that support this.
What is an HDMI adapter?
An HDMI adapter is a type of adapter that can be used to convert an HDMI connector to another type of connector such as USB-C, Mini HDMI, or Micro HDMI. An HDMI adapter may be relevant to acquire if, for example, you want to connect a laptop to an external screen using HDMI, but where the laptop does not have an HDMI input. The HDMI adapter can in this case allow you to still connect the laptop to your existing screen, as the HDMI connector is converted to the relevant connector for your laptop.
When you are looking for an HDMI adapter here at avXperten, it is always important to check in advance which HDMI adapter best suits your needs. Not all HDMI adapters are the same, as most can only be used to convert HDMI to one other connector or to join two HDMI cables.
What can an HDMI adapter be used for?
Different HDMI adapters can have different purposes. If you choose, for example, an HDMI adapter that can convert HDMI to Micro HDMI, this adapter can exclusively be used to convert HDMI to Micro HDMI. There are many different HDMI adapters of this type, where the adapter is used to convert HDMI to another type of connector.
There are also HDMI adapters specifically suitable for soldering. With a solderable HDMI connector, you can run HDMI cables through walls without having to drill holes in the wall. Normally, it is necessary to drill a large hole in the wall for an HDMI connector to have enough space to pass through. With this type of HDMI adapter, you do not have to worry about that, as you can simply solder the connector to a cable after it has been pulled through the wall.
There are also HDMI adapters of the terminal block type. Since an HDMI connector consists of 20 different conductors, it can be quite tricky to solder onto an HDMI cable. This type of HDMI adapter with terminal block can, however, be easily and, not least, safely used to install an HDMI connector for flush mounting. Most often, this type of adapter will be used for industrial purposes, which is why it is not so common to use in private contexts.
At the same time, there is also another type of HDMI adapter that is mainly used to join two HDMI cables or extend a single cable, thus functioning as an extender.
Use an HDMI adapter as an extender
If you need a longer HDMI cable, you can actually use an HDMI adapter for just this purpose. This type of adapter is typically called either an HDMI Female/Female adapter or an HDMI Male/Female adapter. Here it is important to understand the difference between Male and Female. A Male HDMI connector can be plugged into a Female HDMI connector, thereby establishing a connection. An HDMI cable has a Male HDMI connector at each end, while devices with an HDMI input will have a Female HDMI connector. Therefore, two Male HDMI connectors or two Female HDMI connectors cannot be connected together.
Whether it is an HDMI Female/Female adapter or an HDMI Male/Female adapter, both of these types can easily be used as extenders. However, one should be aware that the two types of HDMI adapters should be used differently when wanting to use them as extenders. If you want to join two short HDMI cables, you need to go for an HDMI Female/Female adapter, while an HDMI Male/Female adapter can be used to extend a single cable or to protect an HDMI connection. Additionally, an HDMI Female/Female adapter can also be used to change gender on an HDMI cable.
